Rabindranath Tagore Rabindranath Tagoreβ[›] (Bengali pronunciation: [rəˈbindrəˈnɑt ˈtɑɡɔr] ( )), also written Rabīndranātha Thākura (Bengali: রবীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুর; pronounced: [rəˈbindrəˈnɑtə ˈtɑkʊrə]),[2] (7 May 1861 – 7 August 1941),γ[›] sobriquet Gurudev,δ[›] was a Bengali polymath who reshaped his region's literature and music. Author of Gitanjali and its "profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse", he became the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. In translation his poetry was viewed as spiritual and mercurial; however, his "elegant prose and magical poetry" remain largely unknown outside Bengal. A Pirali Brahmin from Calcutta, Tagore wrote poetry as an eight-year-old. Early life: 1861–1878 "Rabi" was raised mostly by servants; his mother had died in his early childhood and his father travelled widely. Tagore largely avoided classroom schooling and preferred to roam the manor or nearby Bolpur and Panihati, idylls which the family visited. Shelaidaha: 1878–1901 Travels

MODE: APRIL 2001 – REMEMBERING NATASHA Natasha Duncan, the 21 years old cover girl of April 2001′s MODE issue, was a rising star when this issue was released. After being discovered while working in the offices of the Wilhelmina agency in New York, she quickly landed high profile clients and eventually this MODE cover, with multiple stunning editorials inside. In an industry where true redheads are few and far between, her romantic long curls, freckled skin and big green eyes really stood out from the crowd. Yes, this is a website about fashion, but it’s worth remembering that for all the positivity around plus-size modelling, it’s still modelling, nonetheless. There are very similar pressures of weight control, perfection of looks, approval-seeking, and ambition-led competitiveness as exists among the smaller sized women. Sadly, Natasha commited suicide just four months after this issue was released. share Tagged as: MODE Magazine, Natasha Duncan, Roberto Ligresti, U.S.

List of OECD countries by suicide rate A graph of country totals from the table (suicides per 100,000 people per year, with selected labels). The following is a List of suicide rates for OECD member nations according to data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development in which a country's rank is determined by its total rate of suicides. Methodology[edit] Male and female suicide rates are out of total male population and total female population, respectively (e.g. total number of male suicides divided by total male population). The total rate of suicides is based on the total number of suicides divided by the total population rather than merely the average of the male and female suicide rates, because the gender ratio in most countries is not 1:1. Year refers to the most recent year that data was available for a particular country. Countries[edit] See also[edit] Nations: References[edit]

The Origin of the Honeymoon Tradition Origin of the Honeymoon Tradition Click Here to E-mail this Page to a Friend. Today, the tradition of a honeymoon following nuptials has, long way from its original meaning. Today's "happy ending" to the wedding event is a far cry from its much different beginnings. The word honeymoon has its roots in the Norse word "hjunottsmanathr" which was anything but blissful. The Scandinavian word for honeymoon is derived, in part, from an ancient Northern European custom in which newlyweds, for the first month of their married life, drank a daily cup of honeyed wine called mead. So that leaves us with the question of where the "moon" in the word "honeymoon" originates. As it is with many of our wedding customs, this one also has an alternative explanation of its origin. Certainly we have, long way and there is a vast difference between the original meaning of honeymoon and its present-day connotation. PETA plans to launch a porn site - Tech Talk (CBS) - The animal rights group, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is raising eyebrows with plans to launch a pornography website. The site will take advantage of the new .xxx top level domains. Peta.xxx will be a hub for sexually explicit content and, weirdly enough, animal abuse. Go Daddy announces .XXX domain prices According to the Herald Sun spokeswoman Ashley Byrne stated, "We are preparing to launch our own peta.xxx site, but instead of just showing people our iconic ads, we then show them how animals suffer for entertainment." Why would the animal rights group want to push porn? Sex sells, but who is PETA trying to sell to? Hey PETA, want to save the animals? The organization has been accused of objectifying women for their cause. The whales campaign created a backlash and sparked the Facebook group "Real Women Against PETA." A quick browse through their print campaigns clearly shows the divide between men and women. © 2011 CBS Interactive Inc.

Being fat in Japan Being Fat in Japan Being fat in Japan: the trials of being overweight in this slim conscious Asian nation. In Japan, being fat remains noteworthy, something that makes you stand out in a shameful way in a conformist society. Even now, despite government statistics and anecdotal evidence that Japanese people are getting heavier, I can go days without seeing a single fat person in Tokyo. In my wife`s family, her aunts are sometimes told they have gained weight by their brothers and sisters. However I wonder how many people feel when they are told that they are fat? No one ever tells me I`m fat in Canada. I hate being told I`m fat though, and it happens every month or two in Japan. As I have aged (I am 47 now) I have put on weight and Japanese frequently tell me I am fat. Being Fat in Japan -- What do Japanese think is okay? I don`t think many like it. Perhaps they are being caring and perhaps they hope I will lose weight. Double standards abound. Taisha Jason on Being Overweight in Japan
