Online | Top 10: Shelves And Shelving I recall an infomercial a few years back for a little plastic triangle that stuck in a corner, between two walls, to make a small corner shelf. I don’t remember the exact name of the product, but I do remember that the commercial exhausted all the obvious self/shelf puns: “shelf esteem,” “shelf confidence,” “shelf defense,” “shelf-employed,” etc., etc. So I’ll forgo the obvious opportunities this topic offers for shelf-referential humor and just get down to business. DIY: Paint Stick Sunburst Mirror My friends, if there ever was a bandwagon, this carefree DIYer is jumping right on it. For months, I’ve seen fabulous versions of the sunburst mirror pop up all over the blogosphere. And for weeks now, with every stop in the paint department, I couldn’t help but notice how those paint stir sticks might just make a very cool version of this decorative favorite. I couldn’t figure out how to stack them nicely enough around the center to make it worth my effort, but that little road bump didn’t stop me from snagging more than my fair share of free stir sticks at a time, like 8 or 10, over the course of a month. How to Make a (Paint Stir Stick) Sunburst Mirror What You’ll Need: 46-50 paint stir sticks; wood base, 7” embroidery hoop, 7” circle mirror, gorilla glue or hot glue, paintbrush, Xacto knife, plastic spray paint (optional, and not necessary if you use a wood hoop), craft paints in various colors; picture hanger (not shown) Tools: miter saw. Paint your embroidery hoop.
Cool Interior Tree Home: Best Kids Bedroom Design Ever? There are a lot of ways to make a nice bedroom, but for kids there is an element of excitement that is just as important as bedroom size and style. As these pictures illustrate, a cool bedroom for children can be a virtual fantasy world in itself – in this case by making the outdoors the driving interior design idea and central concept of the bedroom space. Complete with climbing ropes, ladders, swings and all kinds of hidden storage spaces, this bedroom brings all of the elements of an outdoor play space inside and makes the room feel like a self-sufficient home at the same time. The best part, of course, is the tree house in the center of the room – who would not have enjoyed that as a kid growing up? Though this kind of cool bedroom design for kids can of course be contracted out to someone else like Kidtropolis, it is also perhaps an opportunity for a fun do-it-yourself project that engages children in the activity of designing and building their own space.

creative-guest-icandy-handmade.html from u-createcrafts.com Hi friends! I can't tell you how excited I am to be a creative guest on Ucreate today! I've been bubbling with excitement for weeks and have been scheming over what project would be Ucreate-worthy. I hope this one fits the bill...! First of all, I'm Autie and my friend Jen and I blog over at iCandy handmade. I'm a busy mom of 2 cute little kids and during nap time and bed time, I love to work on projects! The project that I thought I'd share with you today started out with these. The drawer does not open, but the cupboard door does...and it leaves about an inch of space to keep something in it...like art masterpieces of a few sheets of homework paper...hmmmm I bounced some ideas off of Jen, and this is what I came up with...I give you the Cupboard Door into Art Desk Tutorial I made one for each of my littles, and so far, they're totally diggin' it! If you want to know what I did, here's a quick run-down on what I did: I wanted to use the drawer as a supply holder. Here we are so far: -Autie
Travel | Hotel Huettenpalast in Berlin Everyone is looking for something different in their hotel experience—some crave numerous amenities; some look for a spot with interesting architecture or an otherwise unforgettable space; and some just want a cheap bed to crash on. The funky hotel Huettenpalast in Berlin delivers on all three of those, which makes it a must visit in my book. You can stay in their hotel rooms or book one of the three indoor caravans and huts featured here for a more unconventional sleep experience. Equal parts campgound, art installation, and childhood fort, this cluster of “rooms” seems too cool to pass up—luckily they cost only 60 euros ($85) a night. The hotel also has a garden, a cafe and bar that host frequent events, and other fun things to explore. Couldn’t we all use a bit of urban camping this summer and fall? A Miniature World of Fantasy and Games: Rhapsody Children’s Beds We don’t know if it is right to call the furniture products below “children’s beds”, simply due to the fact that the last thing children would think about while being in them is sleep. The beautiful wooden Rhapsody Beds (we have to respect their official name) come from CedarWorks and were created while respecting the dreams and wishes of children. They are not just a place for sleeping, but more important for playing, exploring, discovering. We think “imagination” is the key word that can characterize these beds, as they manage to put together a miniature world which the children can “customize” in any way they desire. Natural Pools or Swimming Ponds Natural Pools or Natural Swimming Ponds (NSPs) Let nature clean the water... Chemical-free water garden and swimming pool. The plant portion, or regeneration zone, is separated from the swimming area by the wall seen a few inches below the water’s surface. www.naturalswimmingpools.com The pools have skimmers and pumps that circulate the water through the regeneration zone and back into the swimming area. Stark Trek Voyager Home Tony Alleyne pimped his bachelor pad Star Trek style (and I’m talking floor to ceiling Voyager makeover) when his wife left him. We’ve actually featured geekchitecture before, back when we said it was on the market for $1 million, but we finally have more pictures of the Star Trek home. All of the furnishings in Alleyne’s Hinckley, Leicestershire Star Trek home were created by the bachelor himself, a project that took him from 1999 to 2004 to complete. “The 500-square-foot apartment features voice-activated lighting, LED lighting, running lights, air-conditioning - but no bed,” MyModernMet explains. “A few years ago Mr Alleyne suffered from sciatica and was advised by his GP to sleep on the floor. ‘It cured the sciatica and gave me the opportunity to convert the bed area into the Transporter area,’ he says. Check out pictures of the Star Trek home above, as well as other Star Trek furniture and decor in the articles below.
