Customizable math toolbar Stormia - Live hi-res weather radar map for {city}, United States Forecasted data is based on the HRRR model from NOAA, which is real-time 2 miles resolution, hourly updated, cloud-resolving, convection-allowing atmospheric model, initialized by 2 miles grids with 2 miles radar assimilation. Radar data is assimilated in the HRRR every 15 min over a 1-h period adding further detail to that provided by the hourly data assimilation from the 8 miles radar-enhanced Rapid Refresh. For real-time data we are ingesting radar data every 15 minutes, together with lightning strike measurements and satellite imagery. The 11 most beautiful mathematical equations This equation of special relativity describes time dilation. Shutterstock/optimarc Mathematical equations aren't just useful -- many are quite beautiful. And many scientists admit they are often fond of particular formulas not just for their function, but for their form, and the simple, poetic truths they contain. A First Course in Linear Algebra (A Free Textbook) Open Content Mathematics Curriculum This is an evolving description of books and software that could be used to design a totally open undergraduate mathematics curriculum. This is meant to be a selective list, so you can consider these to be personal recommendations, not just links I've found promising. As such there will be a limited number of entries in each category. The first criteria in selecting texts is that preference will be given to those that are truly free - as in free to copy, free to modify, free to distribute, free to sell.

Fifty psychological and psychiatric terms to avoid: a list of inaccurate, misleading, misused, ambiguous, and logically confused words and phrases “If names be not correct, language is not in accordance with the truth of things.” (Confucius, The Analects) Scientific thinking necessitates clarity, including clarity in writing (Pinker, 2014). Boole - 19th Century Mathematics The British mathematician and philosopher George Boole, along with his near contemporary and countryman Augustus de Morgan, was one of the few since Leibniz to give any serious thought to logic and its mathematical implications. Unlike Leibniz, though, Boole came to see logic as principally a discipline of mathematics, rather than of philosophy. His extraordinary mathematical talents did not manifest themselves in early life. He received his early lessons in mathematics from his father, a tradesman with an amateur interest in in mathematics and logic, but his favourite subject at school was classics. He was a quiet, serious and modest young man from a humble working class background, and largely self-taught in his mathematics (he would borrow mathematical journals from his local Mechanics Institute). But it was his contributions to the algebra of logic which were later to be viewed as immensely important and influential.

Population Pyramids and Us First, you can conduct a class discussion on this question: "What types of geographic questions can be answered by studying a population’s age and gender composition?" You and your students should then assemble a list of questions and discuss exactly what types of demographic data would be useful in answering them. From there, show the class examples of population pyramids from the U.S. Census website. Then use the data to create a population pyramid on an overhead transparency or the blackboard.
