[Editor’s Note: Ronan Glon of Ran When Parked recently took a trip to the Swedish countryside, where he discovered a sneaky (and legal) way some teens there have figured out how to drive before the legal age.] Some of the most interesting cars that Sweden has to offer are hiding in small, rural towns, not in museums. That’s because 15-year-olds are allowed to drive virtually any type of car if it’s been converted into a two-seater pickup, and modified to top out at about 20 MPH. These home-made pickups are considered tractors by Swedish law, and they’ve been around for nearly a century. In the early days, real tractors were expensive and difficult to come by, so skilled DIYers began chopping up cars (often Ford Model As) to use them in the fields.

KS2 Literacy
Different types of words can be used to make your writing more interesting and easier to read. You need to know when to use them and how to spot them. In writing, words are grouped together into phrases, sentences, clauses and paragraphs. Linking these building blocks together in the right way makes your writing easy to understand and interesting to read. Use your commenting skills to identify what's wrong with these pieces of writing. When you are writing non-fiction it's important to use a style of writing that fits the subject.Use your knowledge of non-fiction writing to group the correct titles, text and pictures together.

We will now start a reading comprehension period in English, and the material will be very individualized since many of you are on different levels. We will be using the website ReadTheory.org and you will get username and password from me. When you log in, the first thing you do is a placement test to assign you to the correct level - do the placement test quietly, on your own without asking questions or googling the answers, otherwise you won't get the exercises adapted for your development!
