Social television Social television is the union of television and social media. Millions of people now share their TV experience with other viewers on social media such as Twitter and Facebook using smartphones and tablets. The result is a massive and rapidly expanding real-time focus group and promotional force.[1] The social TV market covers the technologies that support communication and social interaction around TV as well as companies that study television-related social behaviour and measure social media activities tied to specific TV broadcasts[2] – many of which have attracted significant investment from established media and technology companies. The market is also seeing numerous tie-ups between broadcasters and social networking players such as Twitter and Facebook. Much of the investment in the earlier years of social TV went into standalone social TV apps. Twitter vs Facebook[edit] As an open platform, conversation on Twitter is closely aligned with real-time events. Erika Jonietz.

But let me warn you now that there be spoilers ahead, so stop reading if you’re still trying to stay in the dark. Still here? OK. As shocking as Sunday’s Starkicide was, what’s even more shocking is that events like these actually happened. The Massacre of Glencoe In 1691, all Scottish clans were called upon to renounce the deposed King of Scotland, James VII, and swear allegiance to King William of Orange (of William and Mary fame). Unfortunately, it was December 28 before a messenger arrived with this all-important letter from the former king. Maclain was detained for days when he went through Inveraray, the town of the rival Clan Campbell, but still managed to deliver the oath, albeit several days late. The massacre was considered especially awful because it was “Slaughter Under Trust”—sound familiar, Game of Thrones fans?
Artificial selection in the lab Artificial selection in the lab For thousands of years, humans have been influencing evolution, through changes we have caused in the environment — and through artificial selection in the domestication of plants and animals. In many cases, scientists have carefully documented evolution through artificial selection in the lab. John Endler performed experiments in microevolution, allowing artificial selection to manipulate the spots on guppies. Guppy spots are largely genetically controlled. Spots that help the guppy blend in with its surroundings protect it from predation — but spots that make it stand out help it attract mates. After fewer than 15 generations of selection, the markings of guppies in different ponds had substantially diverged as a result of natural selection. Endler then performed another experiment, with the same pond set-ups but without predators.
