Re-purposing: Tshirts into 5-strand-braided-headbands
I was walking through Target a few weeks ago and noticed this little knit fabric headband that was not just braided together…….but woven. I decided they were charging way too much for something that could be made with t-shirt scraps. And that means free. So there you have it. A nice and easy project to give my bad-hair-day head some love. (Or you may need one for working out. I kinda love it on my little girl . She always has little hair fly-aways that get into her face…….and this helps with that problem. It even works great with her hair down…..and keeps that hair tucked behind her ears. And yep, good for me too. Thanks little t-shirt scraps. Want to make your own? First, find some old t-shirts. Then, cut your fabric into long strips. Next, stack your 5 strips on top of each other and sew together at one end. Now, pull on each strip of fabric so that they kind of curl on the edges. But let me explain a little better. First, you’ll work on the left side. And that’s it. This post is sponsored by:

Simply Color by Vanessa Christenson for Moda: Coin Purse If we must say so ourselves (and sometimes we must), these little coin purses are about as adorable as they come! Not only do they get five stars on the cuteness chart, they are super easy to make. Make one for yourself (because you deserve it!)

TIPPED OUT all photos: Kristin Ess + thebeautydepartment.com post designed by kristin ess Lots of emails this week asking for a tutorial on Lauren’s temporary bright colors. Here I’ve replicated the process for you in 7 steps on an extension. While I never recommend bleaching out the ends of your hair at home, if you want to do the fun colors yourself, maybe get the tips bleached out by a pro + then play with the temporary colors on your own. Coolest Embellished T-Shirts and Tops - Photo Gallery (3 of 5) My favorite fashion trend of the moment are embellished t-shirts and tops. Why do I love them so much? They're the perfect thing to wear for a night out. You can still look amazingly dressy even with jeans! (My dresses are completely out for the season, it was -2 degrees today!)

How to Make a Headband, Version 1: The Head Scarf Silk head scarf measuring 10" (25 cm) wide by 15.5" (39 cm) long with covered elastic measuring 1" (25 mm) wide by 6" (15 cm) long. Woven fabric, like lightweight cotton, linen, silk chiffon, or silk charmeuse 1" (25 mm) wide elastic--you'll need a length of about 6" (15 cm), but you can wait to cut it until the fitting stage Safety pin or loop turner Main Piece: Cut 1 rectangle from your fabric as shown in Diagram 1. You can vary the width quite a bit depending on how much of your head you want covered; I'd say 6" (15 cm) to 13" (33 cm) is the general range for this style.

Made By Rae: (Free!) Buttercup Bag Sewing Pattern This pattern uses a mere fat quarter of fabric for the outer + a little less of another fabric for lining. If you’re using quilting cotton for the outer fabric, I recommend using a fusible interfacing to strengthen it. You’ll also need a magnetic snap and (optionally) a couple of buttons, although it looks pretty cute without the buttons too. I think this would also look great with some piping or ric-rac over the pleats…I can’t wait to see what y’all do with this one!
