Etsy Dm Creations Art 101 174 Piece Wood Art Set: Toys & Games Gift Guide 2011: Core77's End of Year/End of Days Must Haves Photo Editor / New York, New York Finding great gifts for designers is tough: They’re picky, they already know what they want and chances are it’s not cheap—industrial designers are even worse—they’re some of the most over-informed and critical consumers to shop for! The best strategy is simply asking what they want but if you’re still up to the challenge of finding that special something, I recommend being thoughtful and giving a present that's specific to their interests. Here’s a selection of functional products that are awesome, fun and might offer you some inspiration. These Adidas Star Wars Kicks Are Kinda Genius A month ago, we wrote about the new Star Wars--themed shoe line Adidas was creating for 2010. At the time, only teaser shots were available. But the full deets are out, and the results, against all expectations, are kind of awesome. What's particularly clever is how very subtle the Star Wars references are. Yoda's shoes have that rugged, handmade look that's oh so popular in the forbidding swamps of Dagobah: The X-wing shoes look exactly like what you'd be wearing to pilot one: Comfy, light, and a little bit weathered from running around the cargo hold screaming about the Empire: The AT-AT shoes pick up lots of clever details from their inspiration--like the upraised, rounded joints and the ribbed tongue, that looks like the articulated neck joint of the AT-AT: My personal favorite, the Luke high tops. chaos in the kitchen Dot: 360º video capture for the iPhone 4 by Jeff Glasse Hey Kickstarter-onians, Thanks for checking out our project! We call it Dot. It’s a stylish, durable and downright pocketable 360º (panoramic) lens attachment and app for the iPhone 4. What does it do? Dot lets your iPhone capture immersive, fully navigable, panoramic video in real-time - and share with friends on your phone, as well as on Facebook and Twitter, or streamed online using our awesome panoramic video web platform and player. Cool, right? We're excited too. But seriously, our secret beta testers have already had a lot of fun taking it to concerts, the park, on moped rides in Italy, and showing cramped apartments to mothers halfway around the world. So? We haven’t slept much. We’ve spent the past few months researching, designing, prototyping and coding. Let's do it! We’re excited to bring our cutting-edge (read: magical) panoramic technology to a much wider audience – and even more excited to see what you guys will do with it. Thanks for your support.
