PhotoRogue.com - Request an Original Photograph Techno Gadgets - Your Reliable Source of Photo Equipments How to create a photograph with a Droste effect | usinglight I always was a big fan of M.C.Escher and his recursive and impossible pictures. When I saw the first escheresque photograph I could not resist to search the web and find out how it is done. A few days ago I rediscovered the technique of the Droste effect. A Droste effect picture is a picture within a picture within a picture within a picture… a neverending spiral. This tutorial is based on the tutorial by Josh Sommers, which is a little outdated so I wrote a short guide on how to do it with current versions of the tools. As the original this version is directed at Windows users. What you will need for this tutorial: A working installation of GIMP version 2.6 or newer. Step 1: Preparing the picture What you need for this particular example is a picture “with a hole inside”. Step 2: Droste effect with MathMap Press OK. Congratulations. So this was a simple one. Bean bag for safari Well, that is what I planned to title the article. I spent two weeks examining more than a dozen different bean bag designs for supporting camera and telephoto lens on safari. I developed a rating system and thought I could come up with the one true winner. It doesn’t work that way – life just isn’t that simple. A real bean bag - Let's hope we can find you something better than this! As I reviewed each of the 21 different bags (and a summary review will be posted) and considered how one needs a bean bag on safari, I concluded that it is very safari dependent. Okay, enough with the confusing double talk. For lack of a better descriptor, I will classify the bags into two main categories – full supports and sack supports. If you want to jump to the conclusions and recommendations, you can click here for our full support bag recommendation or click here for our sack type recommendation. Criteria for judging Stability – The most critical factor. Full supports Bag Reviews Sack supports

Singh-Ray Filters Filters are to photographers what adjectives are to writers. They help inject color and a personal style to what is being communicated. Photography is a great medium for the communication of ideas and visions. This large difference in brightness between the sky and foreground is beyond film's ability to see and record. That help comes in the form of a filter. If you are unfamiliar with graduated filters and their use, I suggest reading the information sheet written by Galen Rowell, or contacting Bob at Singh-Ray for any technical assistance at 1-800-486-5501 Like any tool however, standard graduated filters do not work their magic in every situation. The solution to this problem came in a phone call to Bob Singh. Working Example Say you've chosen a composition of shooting east into the sunrise with a field of wildflowers as your foreground. Tips and Advantages These filters work best with flat or regular horizon lines. Conclusion -- Daryl Benson
