The Hitchhiker: Reading Comprehension As Andrea turned off the motorway onto the road to Brockbourne, the small village in which she lived, it was four o'clock in the afternoon, but already the sun was falling behind the hills. At this time in December, it would be completely dark by five o'clock. Andrea shivered. The interior of the car was not cold, but the trees bending in the harsh wind and the patches of yesterday's snow still heaped in the fields made her feel chilly inside. It was another ten miles to the cottage where she lived with her husband Michael, and the dim light and wintry weather made her feel a little lonely. She would have liked to listen to the radio, but it had been stolen from her car when it was parked outside her office in London about two weeks ago, and she had not got around to replacing it yet. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton Enjoy Your English: Poison by Roald Dahl Read Dahl's short story then answer the questions. POISON by Roald Dahl It must have been around when I drove home. Coming up the drive I noticed Harry’s light was still on, so he was awake anyway. I parked the car and went up to the balcony and went across to the door of Harry's room, opened it quietly, and looked in. 'Don't touch the bed! 'What is it, Harry?’ “A krait! 'I haven't been bitten,' he whispered, 'Not yet. 'You don't really mean there's a krait lying on your stomach now?' 'I was reading lying on my back and I felt something on my chest. Harry paused and was silent for a few moments. 'How long ago?' 'Hours,' he whispered. As a matter of fact it wasn't a surprising thing for a krait to do. 'Don't be a damn fool.' 'Why not?’ 'The light would frighten him. 'Why don't you get a doctor?' ‘A doctor. 'Dr Ganderbai,' I said. 'Hello, Mr Woods. Ganderbai said, 'Tell him to keep quite still. I went back to the bedroom. He whispered, 'I'm going to give you an injection. 'No.' That is best.

Video Lesson: Mr. Bean Follow me on twitter This is a video lesson based around the video “Mr. Bean packs his suitcase” thanks to British Council for bringing it to my attention in their lesson plan on making predictions but I’ve adapted it for use in different ways with different levels. Kids and lower levels The aim of this lesson plan is to practice holiday vocabulary (clothes and items that go in a suitcase) and some basic grammar structure. Project a picture of a suitcase on to the board (or draw one) and ask “What do you put in your suitcase when you go on holiday?” toothbrushtoothpasteswimming shorts/trunkstowelunderpantscan of baked beanscloth/flannelsoapbooksuitcasetrousersshortsshoesteddy bearscissors You could also use this quizlet set to go over clothes vocabulary. Books to Read in Class The Adventures of Aladdin One day, as he was looking for wild figs in a grove some way from the town, Aladdin met a mysterious stranger. This smartly dressed dark-eyed man with a trim black beard and a splendid sapphire in his turban, asked Aladdin an unusual question: "Come here, boy," he ordered. "How would you like to earn a silver penny?" The Brothers Grimm Once upon a time . . . a widow had an only son whose name was Aladdin. They were very poor and lived from hand to mouth, though Aladdin did what he could to earn some pennies, by picking bananas in faraway places. One day, as he was looking for wild figs in a grove some way from the town, Aladdin met a mysterious stranger. "Come here, boy," he ordered. "A silver penny!" "I'm not going to ask you to do much. "The lamp! "Give me the lamp," urged the wizard impatiently. "Let me out first . . ." "Too bad for you," snapped the stranger, slamming down the manhole cover, never noticing that, as he did so, a ring slid off his finger. "I want to go home!" "Psst!

EnglishClub : English language Use six different tenses in English | Games to learn English Students often learn just one piece of grammar in a lesson. Most of them master that day’s subject and move on to the next. But, when the time for revision comes, they often don’t remember what they’ve learnt. For example, two weeks ago my class encountered an exercise in which several tenses were revised. That was why I decided to stop there and prepare several exercises and a clear mind map. The second infographic is much more detailed. Now that your students understand the grammar, they have to use it as soon as possible. If you cannot do the exercise online, you can try the following paper version of the quiz. six tenses worksheet You can find more exercises to practise different tenses at Five Tenses and Five Tenses additional exercises.
