You can download the basic list by clicking on the image below, where I’ve put them into a handout format. Print it, keep a copy handy in your pocket, read through the lists and make sure you know most of these words.. Start with the left side column (most frequent), then the second column (next most frequent) etc, and just highlight any you’re not sure about, and look them up or ask The AWL is just a useful shortcut for learners to some of the vocabulary commonly used across the disciplines.
