Paper diamonds By Kate on December 11, 2012 I had a lovely email last week from a Brazilian Engineering graduate. He send me a hand-drawn template for a paper diamond he had been working on. Jean writes: “I’m from a small town between mountains, somewhere in Brazil where the weather is good most of the year round. The diamond model is very beautiful and surprisingly strong. If you are new to paper-crafting I would recommend you made one of my gems or diamonds as a warm-up! When making the diamond I would recommend using good quality thick paper. If you want to leave a comment for Jean please do so…and if you have questions regarding construction you can also leave a comment above and Jean or I will get back to you. How to Make Clothing Buttons from Shrink Plastic&8230; | scissors.paper.wok - StumbleUpon This tutorial is an old one of mine that’s too good not to share again. Since posting the first time, I’ve had lots of questions about these buttons which will hopefully be answered in this revised post. Equipment Some handy notes: 1. single hole, hole punch (like this one here). 2. 3. Okay.. lets get started! Tracing tips: You can use either coloured pencils or permanent pens. Words must be writted backwards in order to be readable. Shrinking the buttons: To shrink the buttons, you can use an oven or a heat gun (the kind used for embellishing). After the buttons have twisted and twirled, and are LYING FLAT, it’s time to take them out. Note: If the skrinking is taking too long, you may need to turn your oven up. Here’s a short little stop-motion to make sure you’ve got the gist of how easy this is! Shrink Paper {here} Circle Punch {here} Hole punch {here} Pens {here} Update: I’ve made a video to show how to shrink the buttons using a craft embellishment heat gun. Kimanh Hi my name's Kimanh.
–›How to Make Your Own Homemade Laundry Detergent Laundry can take up a lot of time, money and energy. I’m always on the lookout for ways to save money on washing and drying clothing. I do things like re-wear clothes before washing them, cutting dryer sheets in half, and line drying my clothes when the weather is nice outside. Then I wrote a post about homemade cleaning products a few weeks ago. I make my own laundry soap! Thanks for the compliment on my blog, Jessica. Making the Detergent I made one small adjustment to the recipe. I used the food processor to grind everything up, just like Jessica recommended, and this laundry detergent literally took me 5 minutes to make. Still, I didn’t know how it would work. The Cost Break Down Let’s break down the cost. I bought one bar of Fels Naptha and used the whole bar. The total cost for one batch of homemade laundry detergent was $2.04 for 24 loads of laundry. So far, very good! Total cost per load: 8 and 1/2 cents. However, I think the homemade stuff has been cleaning better. The Verdict
Design Improvised: DIY Crepe Paper Flower Tutorial These crepe paper roses were my favorite DIY project for my daughter's ballerina birthday party. They were time consuming to be sure, but totally worth the effort. I had a lot of fun experimenting with some new materials I'd never used before like floral tape and double-sided crepe paper. The roses turned out beautiful and so realistic looking. I initially based these flowers off a tutorial from Martha Stewart and another great step-by-step tutorial I found from Green Wedding Shoes, which shows how to make a giant rose for a wedding bouquet. Supplies for Crepe Paper Roses Flower template (I used Martha Stewart's)Sheets of double-sided crepe paperNote: This is important! Total Time: About 1 hour per roseTotal Cost: About $5 per rose How to Make Crepe Paper Roses 1. Tip: you can enlarge the flower template depending on how large you want your roses to be (200% would make for a huge rose. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.
