The Serious Eats Doughnut Style Guide Serious Eats overlord Ed Levine poses with his favorite apple fritter, at Old Fashioned Donuts in Chicago. [Photos: Robyn Lee, Lauren Weisenthal, Katie Robbins, Liz Bomze, Kathy YL Chan, Carey Jones, J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, Alexandra Penfold, María del Mar Sacasa, Adam Lindsley, James Boo] At Serious Eats, we care about the big questions. "What's the difference between Sicilian-style pizza and grandma pizza?" Because there are cake and yeasted and crullers and fritters, cider and potato and sour cream, malasadas and beignets and churros—wait, do we count churros? Come meet all the different doughnuts in this great land. How Do You Spell It? Serious Eats house style mandates the spelling "doughnut"; according to John T. Doughnuts Well, first things first. Yeast Doughnuts A doughnut that uses yeast as a leavener, resulting in a light, airy doughnut. Cake Doughnuts Doughnuts made from a cake-like batter, leavened not with yeast but baking powder or soda. Old-Fashioned Doughnuts Glazed Doughnuts

In it I demonstrate how to process and eat one of the core four essential survival plants: Pine. When you look at your average pine tree, rarely does one think that it has the ability to sustain you in a survival situation if the need ever arose. Pine Nuts All pines contain edible seeds in the late season cones. As someone who lives in the Northeast, species of pine available here do not offer up seeds big enough to warrant the effort required in gathering and processing them. Gathering and Processing Pine Nuts The best time to gather pine nuts is in September and October. Notice the seeds w/in the cones Pine Needle Tea The needles of all pine make an excellent mild tea (not at all pitchy tasting as you’d expect) that is loaded with Vitamin C. To make the tea, simply gather a good handful of fresh green pine needles. Male Pine Cone Flour Edible Pine Bark You can eat bark?

Homemade Body Wash - Keep Scary Out Of Your Shower - To Be A Farmer - Little Seed Farm Our Homemade Lavender-Lemongrass Body WashWhat do you put on your body every day? By the time I’ve finished my morning routine I’ve used shampoo, conditioner, body wash, face wash, toner, moisturizer and sunscreen for my face, and lotion for my body. Somehow, it took me close to a year before I started wondering what the heck was actually in those bottles in my shower. Isn't it odd that we’ve become so conscious of what we put inside our bodies, and somehow managed not to give any thought about what we were putting on them? All of that changed a few weeks ago when a friend recommended The Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep Database which rates products according to the chemicals they contain and how harmful they are. I searched the items in my bathroom and found that all of them except for what I put on my face (Alba Botanica and Kiss My Face) had a moderate to high hazard score. Scrapple and I have been using it for about 2 weeks now and will never go back! Give it a try! 1. 2.
Tractor Implements – Dirt Scoop vs Loader Attachment Since the compact tractors are the most popular machines among the farmers and landscaping contractors, the manufacturers are continually looking to develop new tractor implements with a purpose to increase the compact tractors functionality. In fact, some compact tractors are useless without tractor attachments, but when equipped with the right attachment for every operation, they provide the operators an incredible versatility. The contractors don’t need to use all tractor implements, but only those that can make their tractors more versatile and flexible. The tractor implements can be classified according to their usage. Two very similar tractor attachments are the dirt scoop and the loader attachment. Dirt Scoop – This attachment is compact and very efficient for digging, moving and dumping small quantities of various materials.
Sofa Caddy Sometimes, I think my TV remote has a mind of its own. Nine times out of ten, it's not where I want it when I sit down. I figure it must get up and leave when I'm not looking. Same thing goes for all my other controls ... never around when I need them (much like gas stations). Proving you can mix and match designer fabrics, we used coordinating Amy Butler and Vicki Payne fabrics, both in decorator weight. Any Sewing Machine (we recommend the Janome Memory Craft 6600P) Some important notes on sizing Our pocket sizes were determined based on the things we wanted to store; you'll have different stuff, and you can change the pocket sizes to get the best fit. Chairs vary a lot, especially the style of their arms. Now it's time to cut Lay out base (solid) fabric and measure, draw and cut a rectangle 10" wide x 44" high. All the pockets have side gussets for expansion and an inside lining for stability. For our sample, we chose two tall pockets and one wide pocket. Constructing the base
