M&J Blog Ranch Farmgirl >> Pink & Pretty & Red All Over : RanchFarmgirl High Plains Prose Our farmgirl chapter met at my house recently. A Valentine's Day theme for our craft project and gift goodies was the game plan. Come on in and sit a spell. "Think pink" has been my mantra in preparation for the upcoming light-hearted holiday (pun intended). Ok, so here we go to the "High Plains Sage Hens" farmgirl conflab (is that really a word?). From left to right: Lisa, Anita, Michele, Jennie. I'll try to keep some order here. Lisa gave each of us a beautifully wrapped trio of pink tipped yellow roses (below) with a gourmet candy bar tied on with ribbon. Jennie took a few pics with her phone ... stitching up hearts ... Gift bag from Michele, roses from Lisa ... Shery and Anita ... I'll offer up the recipes now - one for my cherry butter and the other for the cookies shown on today's blog. I based this recipe on the amount of juice I ended up with. 9 Cups "pulpy" juice 8 Cups sugar 3 packages of cherry gelatin 2 packages of Sure-Jel {*style: *}
Pillowcase + Scissors = Paper Bag Skirt « One of my favs Nicole Richie graced the cover of February’s Lucky magazine rocking a way cool purple Philosophy Di Alberta Ferretti paper bag skirt from the Spring 2011 collection. Paper bag skirts have been seen all over runways (Nina Ricci pictured above). The paper bag skirt, so called because the top looks like a scrunched paper bag, is the perfect flirty details for Spring. Lay the pillowcase flat with the open end facing down. Cut about 2 -3 inches off the top. Use your scissors to cut along the closed seam and create a long strip of fabric that can be used as your belt. Cut two 1 inch slits, about an inch apart from each other, to create loops.
A Beautiful Mess Quiet Lion Creations Summer is here! Time for summer hair. What says summer more than the sunny beach? The look of effortless waves is the envy of many city dwellers, but it's totally easy to achieve sans-beach! Celebrity hairstylists rely on chemical-laden and totally overpriced beach sprays to give their clients "the look". Plus, anyone who buys these sprays is basically buying 80% water. That doesn't work for me, or for my DIY-ers. So, why not create a totally natural and totally handmade version yourself? Silly question, I know. The DIY version produces the same results, see above. Yes, your spray will be about 99% water. What's best about the spray is that it won't smell like artificial fragrances; it will smell of fresh herbs. Much nicer to your nostrils and the environment. Enough talk; let's begin. Step 1: Get an old spray bottle (I used a small one, maybe like 4 oz., recycled from a Bath and Body spray). Gather a generous handful of fresh herbs from your garden, if you have one. Step 3: Get a wooden spoon.
How to Make Leaf Skeletons I wanted to share with you a project from one of my readers who shares with us how to make leaf skeletons. I LOVE this! I have several leafs in various forms displayed in my home and knew I needed to make some of her leaf skeletons to add to my decor. I love how a pattern of leaves can enhance the beauty in your home. So I asked Heather if she would mind sharing her project with you. I have spent hours and tried various ways of making these. You need washing soda, not baking soda! Gather your leaves. Washing soda is a strong base so you may want to wear gloves when handling the leaves. You will add 3/4 cup of washing soda and 4 cups of water to your pot of leaves. Keep going, you will need to add more water so your pan doesn’t dry out. When 1.75 hours are up fill a glass baking dish with cool water. I carefully removed them and rinsed with water and added clean water to the pan. If you’re still with me, this is what I ended up with… I have a maple leaf which turned out not so well.
T-shirt Update Kate Spade Style Bonjour everyone! I am back from an amazing trip to Paris, oh lala what a city. Returning with a massive flu and pumped full of antibiotics, oh well.. all worth it! I will give you all a load-down of the amazing places we visited as soon as I'm fever free. I am sure you are all aware of my Kate Spade obsession by now. How cool is it that they are making something as casual as a T into such a pulled together piece. I decided to update my fav J.crew T and add a black bow. All you need is a T, needle and thread, and some gros grain ribbon (I got mine from a fancy shopping bag, how great is that?? LOVE AESTHETICS | by Ivania Carpio michele ng | fashion . beauty . craft . lifestyle Dew" It Yourself Jewelry Stand Given that title and my penchant for puns, I'm guessing it will take you guys exactly 3.7 seconds to guess what my new jewelry stand is made from: Aw, you only needed two seconds, didn't you? I knew it. Yep, this pretty green number is made from four plastic Mountain Dew bottles and exactly $3.72 worth of materials from the hardware store. Not too shabby. It also only took about two hours to make, so let's get to it! First, collect your bottles. If you happen to have a Diet 'Dew addict for a spouse like me, this will take less than three days. I found it easiest to cut the bottoms off my bottles with a strong utility knife, and then trim them down further with scissors. Other than the bottles you will need: One 12-inch length of threaded rod (no cutting necessary; they come this size in the hardware store) and one baggy each of a coordinating size nuts and washers. Drill holes that are the same size as your threaded rod in the center of each tray: Now you're ready to assemble your stand!
