Why a Cybersecurity Treaty Is a Pipe Dream Authors: Adam Segal, Maurice R. Greenberg Senior Fellow for China Studies, and Matthew C. Waxman, Adjunct Senior Fellow for Law and Foreign Policy October 27, 2011 cnn.com Editor's Note: Adam Segal is the Ira A. With companies and governments seemingly incapable of defending themselves from sophisticated cyber attacks and infiltration, there is almost universal belief that any durable cybersecurity solution must be transnational. As a step in that direction, the British government is convening next week the London Conference on Cyberspace to promote new norms of cybersecurity and the free flow of information via digital networks. Different interests among powerful states – stemming from different strategic priorities, internal politics, public-private relationships and vulnerabilities – will continue to pull them apart on how cyberspace should be used, regulated, and secured. One of the most contentious divergences concerns the definition of cybersecurity itself.
Think tanks A think tank (also called a policy institute) is an organization, institute, corporation, or group that conducts research and engages in advocacy in public policy.[1] Many think tanks are non-profit organizations, which some countries such as the United States and Canada provide with tax exempt status. While many think tanks are funded by governments, interest groups, or businesses, some think tanks also derive income from consulting or research work related to their mandate.[2] In some cases, think tanks are little more than public relations fronts, usually headquartered in state or national seats of government and generating self-serving scholarship that serves the advocacy goals of their industry sponsors. Of course, some think tanks are more legitimate than that. Private funding does not necessarily make a researcher a shill, and some think-tanks produce worthwhile public policy research. Think tanks are funded primarily by large businesses and major foundations. US Government Books

Wall Street Couldn’t Have Done It Alone OCTOBER 07, 2011 by SHELDON RICHMAN To Occupy Wall Street: Wall Street couldn’t have done it alone. It takes a government and/or its central bank, the Federal Reserve System, to: No bank or group of banks could do these things on its own in a freed market. So demonstrators, you are right. Greed without political power is boorish. The freed market is the alternative to what you properly despise.
