Facebook Timeline for brands due end of February: here’s how to prepare
[Update 1st March] Facebook rolled out Timeline for brands on a preview basis on 29th February, with a mandatory switchover from Pages to Timeline on 30th March. Check out our video demo below with tips on how to make the most of the new format : The arrival of Facebook Timeline for brands has been very on and off, but it looks like it will finally arrive at the end of this month, to coincide with a Facebook marketing event in New York on February 29th. As with any changes Facebook makes for brands, you're unlikely to get much warning before the switchover and may find yourself adjusting to the changes as you go, while all your fans can see what's happening. Many brands were affected by the switch to https connections to apps for example, or the pixel width of tabs being adjusted. Decide your timeline of events To help ensure you can get your Timeline activity in place, it's a good idea to decide beforehand which events you would like to feature as milestones. Facebook Timeline For Pages Kills Marketing Feature: Default Landing Tabs
Amongst the beautiful covers and pinned posts, there’s one disadvantage of the new Facebook Timeline for Pages redesign. Pages can no longer display one of their custom applications as their default landing tab that non-fans first see when they visit. This powerful marketing feature let Pages set up a welcome app that teased special content like contests or coupons, but required users to Like the Page for access. Without default landing tabs, non-fans have to actively click through the little app tiles overshadowed by a Page’s cover. [Update: This feature sunset isn't so bad after all. In the end, this is good for the user experience, it could only cause a maximum of a 10% drop in Page app traffic, and much of the way Pages use apps stays the same. Default landing tabs were widely known as a Facebook Page marketing tactic. Facebook’s goal was likely to make Pages more about storytelling than product selling.
Why Your Business Should Be Modeled After Abraham Lincoln’s Life | Under30CEO
When you start your business your goal should be to go from nothing to something great that changes people’s lives while earning you a living. This is much like Lincoln who grew up in poverty and battled depression but never stopped persevering nor did he ever accept defeat. Lincoln went on to become one of our greatest presidents and a national hero. My advice is to look at business examples to model his life and the businesses of other great business men. Steve Jobs built a personal computer and tech device empire on the idea of thinking differently and providing quality. Ways to run your business like his life: 1. Lincoln prided himself on his character and honesty. 2. Lincoln had a sincere love of people and although depressive and shy he made a career out of making a difference in others lives. 3. Lincoln medicated his depression with laughter he believed it was better to laugh than allow himself to cry. 4. Passion fuels desire and helps to drive you. 5. 6. 7. Category: Startup Advice
Tutorial: How to Create a Facebook iFrame Page Tab Application
IMPORTANT: Facebook announced that as of February 1, 2012 they are removing App Profile Pages, and the new way is pretty great. Read our article on the App Profile Pages being removed. Updated Tutorial: Fall 2011 Facebook has been very busy updating how things are done, and one of the changes is how you create an iFrame application tab. Although the concept is pretty much the same, the interface for creating a Facebook iFrame tab app has changed. This tutorial updates a tutorial we did on this subject earlier this year. What is an iFrame application? An iFrame application you allows you to embed an external Web page in your custom Facebook Page tab. Because this iframed page isn’t hosted on Facebook, it can use standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript like any other Web page does. The downside of this approach is that you need to be familiar with those technologies and you will need a Web-accessible server where you upload the files for your application page.
