About Us - ideas42 What We Do We grew out of research programs in psychology and economics at top academic institutions, and our work draws on decades of experimental scientific research. We use these insights to design scalable ways to improve programs, policies and products in the real world. We work with a wide range of partners, from leading foundations and non-profit organizations, to government bodies and businesses.

The 48 Laws of Power Background[edit] Greene initially formulated some of the ideas in The 48 Laws of Power while working as a writer in Hollywood and concluding that today's power elite shared similar traits with powerful figures throughout history.[5] In 1995, Greene worked as a writer at Fabrica, an art and media school, and met a book packager named Joost Elffers.[4][8] Greene pitched a book about power to Elffers and six months later, Elffers requested that Greene write a treatment.[4] Although Greene was unhappy in his current job, he was comfortable and saw the time needed to write a proper book proposal as too risky.[10] However, at the time Greene was rereading his favorite biography about Julius Caesar and took inspiration from Caesar's decision to cross the Rubicon River and fight Pompey, thus inciting the Great Roman Civil War.[10] Greene would follow Caesar's example and write the treatment, which later became The 48 Laws of Power.[10] He would note this as the turning point of his life.[10]

The human planet This is the first map that really does give everyone almost equal space. Previous cartograms which claimed that actually gave water too much space. Take almost all the water out and we see a new world. The cartogram shown in this graphic presents an experimental approach to the creation of a gridded world population cartogram. Cartograms have become a more commonly used alternative to conventional maps.

EU Policy Lab The EU Policy Lab is a collaborative and experimental space for innovative policy-making. It is both a physical space and a way of working that combines to explore, connect and find solutions for better policies. By accessing diverse areas of knowledge, we strive to co-create, test and prototype ideas to address complex social problems and to enable collective change. The Lab invites policy-makers to explore scenarios, connect issues and find solutions for better policies, acting as a facilitator and providing a safe-space for open interactions. It delivers insights and works side by side with the services and agencies of the European Institutions, international bodies, public organisations, universities and research centres.

OODA loop Diagram of a decision cycle known as the Boyd cycle, or the OODA loop Overview[edit] The OODA loop has become an important concept in litigation,[1] business[2] and military strategy. According to Boyd, decision-making occurs in a recurring cycle of observe-orient-decide-act. An entity (whether an individual or an organization) that can process this cycle quickly, observing and reacting to unfolding events more rapidly than an opponent can thereby "get inside" the opponent's decision cycle and gain the advantage.

Foresight and Horizon scanning The JRC relies on foresight and horizon scanning to look into the longer-term impact of policies and technologies and anticipate emerging societal challenges. Foresight explores the future of scientific and technological achievements and their potential impacts on society. It aims to identify the areas of scientific research and technological development most likely to bring about change and drive economic, environmental and social benefits for the future. Foresight studies at the JRC identify and analyse societal challenges that have implications on research and EU policies in extended period of time - from five to thirty years. They follow a defined methodological approach based on a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods and techniques (e.g. scenario analysis, trend analysis, etc.).

The 33 Strategies of War Reception In the book Greene reveals that "Afghanistan was rich in natural gas and other minerals and had ports on the Indian Ocean".[14] The political tales in the book are said to be "mostly foolish or just plain wrong".[15] The book has "far too many duff sentences",[5] for example: "Your goal is to blend philosophy and war, wisdom and battle, into an unbeatable blend."[5][16] Future Foresight Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Future is mandated with the portfolio of future of UAE and developing a strategy that ensures all sectors’ readiness for the future’s variabilities. The ministry works on employing the relevant tools to shape the future, which helps governments in forecasting opportunities, trends, challenges and future implications, analyzing their impact, developing innovative solutions and providing alternatives. It is aimed to assist in enhancing precise planning for the future and supporting, guiding and prioritizing preemptive and responsive policies or initiatives.

Digital strategy In the fields of strategic management, marketing strategy and business strategy, digital strategy is the process of specifying an organization's vision, goals, opportunities and initiatives in order to maximize the business benefits of digital initiatives to the organization. These can range from an enterprise focus, which considers the broader opportunities and risks that digital potentially creates (e.g., changes in the publishing industry) and often includes customer intelligence, collaboration, new product/market exploration, sales and service optimization, enterprise technology architectures and processes, innovation and governance; to more marketing and customer-focused efforts such as web sites, mobile, eCommerce, social, site and search engine optimization, and advertising.
