" I thought last week that a lot of the problems that Democrats had for the convention was related to how it was a virtual convention and the Republicans would have similar trouble as he put on their convention," Hemingway said. "There was no comparison between the RNC tonight and the Democratic convention, the first night last week. "I think it's all about the substance." Hemingway, a senior editor at The Federalist, cited powerful remarks from "everyday Americans" who shared their personal stories with the country.

UK Covid-19 lockdown 'to be extended beyond next week' Dominic Raab is expected to signal that stringent lockdown measures must remain in place beyond next week, in the first key government decision to be taken while the prime minister remains in intensive care. The death toll from coronavirus is continuing to rise daily, with 938 UK fatalities announced on Wednesday – close to the highest daily figures reported in Italy and Spain. Medical experts are not expecting the peak to come for more than week. With the long Easter weekend looming, ministers are concerned that any suggestion of an imminent loosening of restrictions could result in an immediate change in the public’s behaviour. The Guardian has learned that at least five police chief constables want the government to consider toughening coronavirus lockdown restrictions amid concerns that a growing minority will flout the rules over the bank holiday. Johnson, 55, was set to spend a third night in intensive care at St Thomas’ hospital in London on Wednesday night.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler excoriates President Donald Trump: 'It's you who have created the hate' Speaking at a news conference, Mayor Ted Wheeler asked, "Do you seriously wonder, Mr. President, why this is the first time in decades that America has seen this level of violence?" "It's you who have created the hate and the division. It's you who have not found a way to say the names of Black people killed by police officers even as people in law enforcement have. And it's you who claimed that White supremacists are good people," he continued. "Your campaign of fear is as anti-democratic as anything you've done to create hate and vitriol in our beautiful country."
Coronavirus May Have Spread in U.S. for Weeks, Gene Sequencing Suggests Researchers who have examined the genomes of two coronavirus infections in Washington State say the similarities between the cases suggest that the virus may have been spreading in the state for weeks. Washington had the United States’ first confirmed case of coronavirus, announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Jan. 20. Based on an analysis of the virus’s genetic sequence, another case that surfaced in the state and was announced on Friday probably was descended from that first case. The two people live in the same county, but are not known to have had contact with one another, and the second case occurred well after the first would no longer be expected to be contagious. Dr.

New Jersey woman who tested positive for coronavirus remains 'at large' after giving hospital false name, address An unidentified young woman in Newark, which is New Jersey’s largest city population-wise, and sits about 10.6 miles outside Manhattan, is posing a “public health risk” and remains “at large” in the community after testing positive for the coronavirus, the mayor said Tuesday. In a video press conference, Mayor Ras Baraka, a Democrat, said the unidentified woman arrived at East Orange General Hospital on Saturday, underwent a COVID-19 test, provided a false name and address and left. The test result later came back positive, and city health officials arrived to the address provided to notify her that she needed to come in for treatment. That’s when officials realized the woman at the hospital had lied about her identity and residence.
Ohio primary thrust into chaos after governor defies judge's decision not to delay election Ohio's primary election was thrust into chaos Monday as Gov. Mike DeWine said the state would not open polls Tuesday because of the coronavirus outbreak after a judge declined to postpone the contest until June. "During this time when we face an unprecedented public health crisis, to conduct an election tomorrow would force poll workers and voters to place themselves at an unacceptable health risk of contracting coronavirus," DeWine said in a statement posted to Twitter. Judges keep Kanye West off Arizona and Virginia ballots Arizona state Judge Scott McCoy ruled that the plaintiffs in an Arizona lawsuit filed Monday were likely to succeed on the merits in arguing that state law barred West from appearing on the ballot as an independent candidate for president because he's a registered Republican. Attorneys for Maricopa County resident Rasean Clayton argued that under Arizona law, West and the slate of 11 electors pledged to support him can gain access to the ballot by gathering enough signatures only if they are "not a registered member of a recognized political party." The suit argued that West and 10 of his 11 electors are registered Republicans. Richmond Circuit Judge Joi Taylor's order barred state elections officials from printing West's name on ballots and said officials in any communities where his name already had been printed must provide notice to voters that he had been disqualified. The rulings come as questions and legal fights swirl around West's quasi-candidacy.

The products have been greenlit by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration under new expedited guidelines to help combat the virus, according to Stat, a health care industry news outlet. One such test provider is Nurx, a San Francisco-based company best known for home testing products for birth control and for sexually transmitted infections, now offers testing kits for COVID-19 through the mail for $181 after prospective customers fill out an online form with their symptoms. “We don’t look for the severity of symptoms, only the presence of them. They can range from mild to severe,” Nurx spokeswoman Allison Hoffman told SFGate.com.
