Natural science can be characterized as the investigation ofpatterns in nature. Central to both domains is the notion of model as a unit of coherently structured knowledge. Modeling Theory is concerned with models as basic structures in cognition as well as scientific knowledge. It maintains a sharp distinction between mental models that people think with and conceptual models that are publicly shared. What Is the Microsoft .NET Framework, and Why Is It Installed on My PC? If you’ve been using Windows for very long at all, you’ve probably heard of Microsoft’s .NET, probably because an application asked you to install it, or you noticed it in your list of installed programs. Unless you’re a developer, you don’t need a lot of knowledge to make use of it. You just need it to work. But, since we geeks like knowing things, join us as we explore just what .NET is and why so many applications need it.
Using Labs When you join NOVA Labs, you'll be actively participating in science. The data are real. The questions are real. The challenges you'll encounter are the same challenges that scientists and engineers are grappling with today. Whether you have 10 minutes, a few hours, or the time to stay involved for weeks or months, NOVA Labs provides a variety of opportunities for you to participate in the scientific process. The Smart Slab - 3D-printed formwork for a radical new concrete aesthetic The Smart Slab enhances the excellent structural properties of concrete with a radical new aesthetic enabled by the 3D-printed formwork. Innovation The pioneering construction method of the Smart Slab uses 3D-printed formwork for casting and spraying concrete in geometrically complex shapes. 3D printing overcomes the geometric limitations of traditional formwork fabrication methods. Furthermore, it enables the construction of integrative concrete elements with elaborate, free-form and highly detailed surfaces and smart construction details. 3D printing has the added benefit that geometric complexity and differentiation come at no additional production cost. Context The Smart Slab is part of the DFAB HOUSE, a collaborative demonstrator of the NCCR Digital Fabrication for the NEST building of Empa and Eawag.
VISTA's Year in Health Sciences Our mission is to revolutionize the way people think about learning. “People learn best when they are pursuing goals that they really care about and when what they learn helps them attain their goals. The best means of learning has always been experience.” -- Roger Schank Engines for Education, a non-profit founded by Roger Schank, was formed in 2002 to create new learning environments to replace out-dated and wrong-headed educational notions. At Engines for Education, we believe that we can replace boring and increasingly irrelevant schools with new exciting learning environments. We are attempting to chang e both what and how children learn .

Independent Checksheets We have set up, by necessity, an Independent Scientology course room, not affiliated with DM's because we want to practice Scientology and due to DM's 'Unclean Hands' (a doctrine in equity) we have been compelled to do so. We can't get Standard Scientology from DM's church anymore, because it isn't there and because he prevents us from getting it. So, here we are, with a First Amendment right, to practice our chosen religion, as guaranteed by that First Amendment and also put forth by L. Ron Hubbard himself in the Articles and Bylaws of CST differentiating a Church of Scientology (including RTC) from the 'religion of Scientology'. These Independent Checksheets (IC) were compiled by Dan Koon, Class VI Auditor who worked with LRH in Ron's Technical Research and Compilations (RTRC) based on LRH's 1978/1987 Checksheets on which tens of thousands of standard auditors were successfully trained. LRH personally trained Dan on the TRs.
PhD Scholarship in Computational Design (Architecture) A PhD scholarship is available for a candidate to undertake research in generative design and the fabrication of complex geometries, with a focus on computational design, as part of the RMIT Boeing Research Alliance. Value and duration Up to $40,000 per annum for 3 years with possible six month extension:
WISE - Course Room Set-up Kit Our training courses don’t exist to train you or your employees in your profession or technical field. That’s not our purpose. Our materials don’t cover how to perform open-heart surgery or how to repair a car; we assume you know your profession. Instead, our courses train you in the principles of the Hubbard management system and give you the knowledge and skill to create and successfully manage a business or career.
Block Research Group More info COMPAS is developed by the Block Research Group of ETH Zurich, with the support of the National Centre for Competence in Research (NCCR) in Digital Fabrication. It's main features are: a pure Python base with flexible datastructures, algorithms, and methods geared towards applications in architecture, engineering, and fabrication;geometry processing independent of CAD tools;interoperability with C/C++ code and libraries such as ShapeOp, libigl and Eigen;methods and solvers for numerical computation built around NumPy and SciPy;high peformance computing through GPU acceleration and JIT compilation;plotters and viewers for two-dimensional and basic three-dimensional visualization; andinterfaces to common CAD software and ecosystems. Multi-disciplinary research Architecture is a highly multi-disciplinary field, combining research from computer science, robotics, mathematics, automation, and several other scientific areas.
How technology can actually change education By Roger Schank You can’t read something about education these days without reading about how technology will change everything. Sorry to be a downer, but technology will change nothing if what is meant by technology is that we have new ways of delivering the same old material. Research – eCAADe Researchers The Researchers and Educators involved in eCAADe share a common desire to further research and enrich education in the field of Computer Aided Architectural Design. Sugata Mitra on why children need teachers, autonomy and technology - PP117 It was a privilege and a pleasure this week to talk to world-renowned educational thinker Sugata Mitra about his work and his thoughts on an unusually wide range of educational issues. Sugata Mitra is Professor of Educational Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences at Newcastle University, England. You may well know his ‘Hole in the Wall’ experiment, which involved giving access to computers and the internet to children and seeing what happened.
