www.brandonriza.com Day 9b - Bull Pasture and Estes Canyon Loop The next hike was a short drive from the Arch Canyon trailhead. I had actually done a lot of the Bull Pasture - Estes Canyon loop, but had given up (due to hiking at 2 PM on a very hot day the last time) before making it to the top of Bull Pasture. It is a pretty solid, but fun, hike so I was glad to be doing it again. So here's some pictures from along the way. Start of the Hike (the Chainfruit Cholla doorway...) First teddy bear cholla Heavy chain fruit cholla - I think these are so crazy that they produce so much fruit and virtually all of it is sterile... First Lizard of the hike Cool saguaro cactus with very white spiny tips Organ Pipe Cactus View part way up the hike (notice the cactus antennae on the rock in the second picture) Perfectly situated cactus Teddy Bear Cholla Gauntlet Alien spore waiting to take root Cute little flower Views and cactus Views around the top of the first ridge Unidentified, but loud bird Views (and cactus) Path up to Bull Pasture Ocotillo blossom and scenic views
handpaint Rock texture what reference are you using? what kind of rock are you trying to make? i think your previous attempt was more successful. you just need to keep working at it. first step! sketch the lines. get reference, see how rocks are formed, find your shapes. this is where your texture currently sits. i don't think the lines and cracks you have are working very well, though. they feel jagged and noisy and don't flow. no rhythm. try to avoid a lot of cracks that run counter to the rest of the rocks and end abruptly. reference is key in this step. iteration should be fast. keep sketching until it feels 'right'. second step! define your large forms first. establish the rhythm of your texture. this can also be done incredibly quickly - in my paintover it took roughly 5 seconds and you can immediately tell where you're going with this. grab a light color, grab a dark color, and go nuts. blur your eyes, do the forms read? third step! super-fast paint-over!

Crescent Bridge Canyon Crescent Bridge Canyon was my final hike for our Spring 2012 trip, and it proved to be one of the best hikes and trip highlights. There is nothing better than ending a DV trip with an outstanding hike and then getting to think about that hike during our 10 hour drive home back to the Bay Area. Crescent Bridge was discovered and named by a well-known regular Death Valley hiker named Robbie in the Spring of 2011. Robbie is also known for being the only person to ever document a hike through Cameo Canyon. But his discovery of Crescent Bridge Canyon set off fireworks. SAFETY ALERT-- This hike contains sections of climbing, exposed bypasses and/or high dry falls and may require safety ropes & equipment in order to complete the entire hike. The entrance to Crescent Bridge Canyon, the location of which has not been published. Notice how the water flow and erosion has crafted the texture of the walls: The first of many rocks and interesting formations seen high above the canyon:
Monster Legacy -- The latest news on Pacific Rim Borderlands [Beta - Xbox 360 / PS3] | Unseen 64: Beta, Unreleased & Unseen Videogames! Borderlands is a science fiction FPS with RPG elements developed by Gearbox Software for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. The game was originally revealed in the September 2007 issue of Game Informer magazine. [Info from Wikipedia] When the game was shown again in April 2009, Gearbox changed the graphic style of the game using a “cell shading” technic, that they like to call “Concept Art Style”, instead of the original “realistic” look. Some of the beta places and characters seen in the early screens are not be present in the final version or were heavily changed. Also, in the final game’s code are still hidden lots and lots of beta unused elements, as we can read from Celice posts in the Cutting Room Floor Forum :

Millennium Park Planning of the park began in October 1997. Construction began in October 1998, and Millennium Park was opened in a ceremony on July 16, 2004, four years behind schedule. The three-day opening celebrations were attended by some 300,000 people and included an inaugural concert by the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus. The park has received awards for its accessibility and green design.[3] Millennium Park has free admission,[4] and features the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Cloud Gate, the Crown Fountain, the Lurie Garden, and various other attractions. The park is connected by the BP Pedestrian Bridge and the Nichols Bridgeway to other parts of Grant Park. Some observers consider Millennium Park to be the city's most important project since the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893.[4][5] It far exceeded its originally proposed budget of $150 million. Velo Towers Design Project (+ VIDEO) An unusual Velo Towers design project by Asymptote Architecture promises to become a significant architectural landmark of Yongsan Park, South Korea. The structure is composed of dynamic arrangement of stacked and rotated volumes from formal to conventional extrusion of mass.
