Thanks sundried , great info . I usually go for the pricey software ;-) I'm real conservative about what I download . I take a lot of precautions also . I already have an extensive mp3 music collection so I don't need those really .Movies through Netflix ;-) I'm in no hurry to get on . I could wait until Demonoid is excepting new members . @ mirlen: Demonoid is a nice tracker, with a pretty good community and it's also nicely organized, with comments that are way more helpful and comprehensive than the usual teen comments you get on TPB. Registrations are closed on Demonoid atm, but they do open once in a while. If you really can't wait until they open again, we could work something out. by sundried Nov 26
@mirlen: it depends what i am looking for. I usually use hd-bits for hd movies and lossless audio, and for other stuff torrentbits. They are both really awesome and the torrents are well seeded all the time, also amazing quality. However, on both trackers the registrations are closed and the invites disabled atm. Demonoid is another great tracker. However, it is blocked by some countries, and I can only get on it through a proxy, which kind of stinks. I get on TBP only for small stuff that I can't find on any of the other trackers. Of course, there are also private hubs on DC++ for the really odd things that never survive on torrents. As for Peerblock, I wholeheartedly recommend it, it can be an awesome tool, and not only for torrents, but also for browsing / emule / ftp / dc and god knows what else is out there. It literally rejects all packets from the IPs on the block list, just as if your computer would not exist. Lists update automatically too. by sundried Nov 26

Oops. Well, I mean TPB not Demonoid. Ah yes, private trackers are also a great way to stay safe. Peerblock blocks whole IP ranges when getting stuff from TPB, but funny enough doesn't have to block ANY IP when getting things from hd-bits or torrentbits (both private with no invites atm) by sundried Nov 25
You could also use Azureus (it's java so it will work on Mac too), however try to find an older version. The 2.4 -2.5 were geat.. Starting with 3.0 they switched to this Vuze Interface that I personally find extremely annoying. HOWEVER. The functionality built into the clients will only block the peers from downloading from you, and not from seeing you as part of the cloud. Which is why peerblock is so great, your ip is non-responsive to the blocked addresses. Like you wouldn't exist. Of course it's never 100% safe, after all the filters are not updated every minute, and cannot contain ALL of the offending addresses. @Juan: I don't even know what are you doing on Demonoid if you don't download copyrighted stuff. The pnly way to be safe with P2P is, as with everything else, to use your common sense and take some minimum precautions. by sundried Nov 25

@lojikbomb First of all TPB is not a US based website, is a Swedish website. And second of all it doesn't matter from where you download the .torrent file, if you download copyrighted material from inside the US(or other countries where copyright laws apply and are being enforced) you can be sued for copyright infrigment. by juan Nov 7
I don't recommend using tpb because of the ongoing legal battle and piracy becoming not only more prevalent in recent years but also governments cracking down on sites that support copyright infringement. I download music torrents sometimes, and I don't feel bad about it. I go to those band's shows as much as I can, I buy their shirts and other merchandise at the shows, and I think I support them enough to be able to download a new album when I know I will be supporting them and the money I spend, the majority of it, will go to the band on the road and not the record company and everyone in the totelm pole. I use Flagfox, an addon for Firefox, to check which country a website's IP address is located in. If it's in the US I don't download any torrents from it, I look for one on Sweden, or Germany, or the Czech Republic, or some other obscure country that may not have the same copyright laws as the United States. by lojikbomb Nov 6
