RepRapWiki TEDxEWB Talk: Adrian Bowyer at Imperial College, London, introduces RepRap RepRap is humanity's first general-purpose self-replicating manufacturing machine. RepRap takes the form of a free desktop 3D printer capable of printing plastic objects. Since many parts of RepRap are made from plastic and RepRap prints those parts, RepRap self-replicates by making a kit of itself - a kit that anyone can assemble given time and materials. RepRap is about making self-replicating machines, and making them freely available for the benefit of everyone. Reprap.org is a community project, which means you are welcome to edit most pages on this site, or better yet, create new pages of your own. RepRap was the first of the low-cost 3D printers, and the RepRap Project started the open-source 3D printer revolution. RepRap was voted the most significant 3D-printed object in 2017. RepRap state-of-the-art is well represented by John Mulac's Mulbot and Mike Jeffs' ReprapMJ.
event competition Honorable Mention 2014 Skyscraper Competition Henry Smith, Adam Woodward, Paul Attkins United Kingdom A cylindrical matrix of super tall structure centered on an electromagnetic vertical accelerator to eliminate the hydrocarbon dependency of aircraft during takeoff. The radical re-interpretation of the skyscraper format provides hyper density in an organic and adaptive habitat. Commercial air travel is celebrating its centenary in 2014 and over the last 100 years aviation has made an unprecedented impact on the way people can experience an interconnected and relatively open world. Looking ahead, we can see that in 2050 aviation is predicted to fly 16 billion passengers and 400 million tones of cargo. The future of Aviation is anticipated to rely on energy dense hydrocarbon fuels to provide the power required to make flight possible. The structural solution is born out of a desire to reinvigorate the ‘core and floor plate’ model of high-rise buildings.
3D Printing Systems CES 2013: 3D Systems Introduces A Faster, Quieter Cube 3D Printer There’s a lot of cheap 3D printing options now available to consumers who want to start experimenting with the technology. That being said, all of the cheap options are coming from innovative Kickstarter campaigns. There’s not a lot of cost effective options coming out of the already established players in the industry, but 3D Systems’ newest 3D printer might just do the trick. 3D Systems announced at CES that it’s readying a next-generation Cube 3D printer for launch later this month. The new Cube builds upon the success of the first one, but adds a number of enhancements that will be welcomed by the 3D printing community. The new Cube is said to be 1.5x faster, and has a quieter print speed. The new Cube 3D printer will ship on January 21, and will retail for $1,299. CES 2013: New CubeX 3D Printer Spits Out Objects the Size of Basketballs © Jaymi Heimbuch 3D System's Cubify printer made a real splash at last year's CES and is back again at this year's with new machines that offer even more options for designing and creating your own objects. The newest version of the Cubify's Cube printer now prints up to 1.5 times faster than the old model, and offers more materials, including both ABS and recyclable PLA plastics. These printers are exciting not only for being able to create your own stuff but also for makers and designers who want to create miniature prototypes of designs cheaply and without waste. The brightly colored printers were hard at work on the tradeshow floor showing off what they're capable of. But there is one improvement that some makers require, which can only come from a different machine. The CubeX can handle printing objects 10.8 x 10.45 x 9.5 inches and can do so in three different printing modes and at three different print fill densities.
Dream Worlds Revealed On Canvas Along with some magnificent dreams, Jacek Yerka finds inspiration for his masterful paintings from his childhood memories: the places, remembered feelings and smells of 1950′s Poland. 3ders.org - 3D printing and 3D printers news, trends and resources. Solidoodle 3D Printer - 3D printers May 10, 2012 1:13 PM PDT / Updated: May 15, 2012 11:19 AM PDT Consumer 3D printers used to have fairly clear price points. Premade printers, like the $1,999 I just reviewed, sold for roughly between $1,500 to $2,500. You could alternatively buy a build-it-yourself kit, like the MakerGear Mosaic 3D printer I built in January, starting around $700. Then a little company in Brooklyn, N.Y., introduced the Solidoodle 2, a preassembled 3D printer starting at $500. I first learned of the Solidoodle 2 at the NY Tech Day startup event last month. Sam has worked for MakerGear, the 3D printer maker from Ohio, and also served as MakerBot's chief operating officer. So Sam, as CEO and founder of Solidoodle, gives his company credibility. On the one hand, then, the Solidoodle 2 seems to completely disrupt the 3D printing market with its low price. Based on its specs, nothing. Consider the key features of each printer.
