Cloisonné Ming Dynasty cloisonné enamel bowl, using nine colors of enamel. Chinese cloisonné enamel incense burner, 17th-18th centuries Cloisonné is an ancient technique for decorating metalwork objects, in recent centuries using vitreous enamel, and in older periods also inlays of cut gemstones, glass, and other materials. The resulting objects can also be called cloisonné. The decoration is formed by first adding compartments (cloisons in French[1]) to the metal object by soldering or adhering silver or gold wires or thin strips placed on their edges. These remain visible in the finished piece, separating the different compartments of the enamel or inlays, which are often of several colors. The technique was in ancient times mostly used for jewellery and small fittings for clothes, weapons or similar small objects decorated with geometric or schematic designs, with thick cloison walls. DIY Glitter Vases Inspired by many reader requests for a DIY tutorial to recreate the glittery mason jar vases from this New Year’s Eve party, today we’re playing with glitter. A whole lot of glitter! I whipped up two different versions of these glitter vasses, both of which are quick and easy. They’re perfect for parties, weddings or just to add a touch of sparkle to your dining room table. Supplies - Glass containers (preferably with smooth, straight sides)Glitter (I used Martha Stewart Crafts glitter in Wintermint and Bronze from Michaels)Foam brushPainter’s tapeModPodge For the first vase I used a small cylindrical vase and using the foam brush, applied a thin and even coat of ModPodge on the interior walls of the vase. Then I just let the vase dry. For the second version, I used a mason jar and went for a glitter-dipped look. Next up, I used a copper glitter and coated the outside of the vase. Once everything was nice and dry, I had two of the prettiest vases going!

Make your own jellyfish in a bottle. The other day, while I was thinking to get something to put in the water bottle for Bhoom to shake for fun. I saw a plastic grocery bag next to me and then this idea popped up. I think.. well, give it a try. With some trials and errors, my little jellyfish comes alive just like I thought it would be. : ) When daddy and son first saw it, they’re surprised with their jaws wide open. Things you need to make your own jellyfish (Hope you can find all these in your kitchen) : 1. Instruction: • Flatten the bag and cut off the handle and the bottom part (see picture 1) • Cut along both sides (see picture 2) to split into 2 plastic sheets – by the way, we only use just one of them. • From the center of the plastic sheet, fold it like a tiny balloon to make the head part and tie it with the thread – not too tight (see picture 3). Wire Wrapped Agate Cuff Bracelet I love jewelry projects. Seriously love them. Especially bracelets (gee, have you noticed?? LOL). The things is, I can’t help looking at it and seeing all the room I have for improvement. This bracelet took me closer to 90 minutes than my standard hour-or-less, but as far as supplies go and the process itself, it’s actually quite simple. Two gauges of silver plated copper wire. I made adjustments as I worked and I will note those in the post. First things first – the cuff itself. You don’t need to do anything fancy to connect the two ends. Now, cut off a length of wire that you think you can easily work with. The reason you want to start out at the center is because it’s easy to begin wrapping too tightly, and your bracelet can start getting squeezed smaller. Once you’ve wrapped far enough to get to the outside edge of your bead, do the same thing with the other end of the wire so that both ends are securely wrapped onto the frame. Do this a couple times.
Glass Bottle Turned CandleSAS Interiors by Jenna Burger I’ve been working on so many big projects lately (like the stairs, painting, and this chair) that I wanted to take a quick break and create something super quick and easy to share with you. One of my favorite drinks, especially in the summer, is Saratoga Sparkling Water. Since I live in the town where this water is manufactured, it’s available most everywhere and everytime I see the gorgeous cobalt blue bottle, I just stare at it’s beauty. I never get the nerve to throw the bottles away and have been stockpiling them in my garage waiting for a DIY project to pop into my head. Cute, right? I started off with: my used Saratoga Sparkling Water glass bottle with screw on top *Lamp oil or citronella oilLarge Wicks (I found these replacement wicks for tiki torches at Target)twinehot glue gundrill * other glass bottles like wine bottles, spaghetti jars, mason jars, etc could also work to create this type of a candle. And it worked! I continued the rope around and around and around…
Beaded Spider Tutorial This is a list of step by step instructions to make beaded spiders. Let's get started. Tools: Wire cutter Bent or Straight Nosed Pliers Supplies: 24 or 26 Gauge Wire or Cut Head Pins Large and Small Bead Combinations Broach Pin or Lapel Pin Blank All items are available at Craft and Hobby stores. Cut one wire as the body wire for each spider, it should be long enough to wrap around both beads and make a loop for a necklace or secure a broach pin. Bend the body wire around both beads, then twist the ends to secure the beads. Add the leg wires one at a time. Bend each leg wire in half, so the legs look like the letter M behind the head. Use your pliers to bend the tip of each leg to make feet. Use the ends of the body wire to make a loop for a necklace or to secure a broach pin. I hope you found the instructions to make beaded spiders clear and easy to follow. Enjoy Your Spiders!
DIY: Glass Bottle Makeover Good morning everyone.Today I just wanted to show you a little bottle makeover I did earlier this week – just for fun. I save cool bottles just in case I get a crazy idea and throughout football season and the holidays, I acquired quite a few (Bottles, that is. Anyhow, in the past, I’ve wrapped jute around them, embellished them, sprayed them with chalkboard paint, and so on.. but this time I wanted to do some vintage glam – something you might find at Pottery Barn. Although I removed the label from the top, the wording on this bottle is actually raised lettering that could not be removed. After I cleaned it up, I sprayed it with a metallic bronze spray paint. I then started to work away with ASCP in Provence. I then got my 80 sanding block and started distressing the raised areas, sanding down to only the metallic paint in some areas and all the way down to the glass in others. I used dark wax to create a light patina. I also chose to leave the lid metallic, but with the same distressing.
Electrolytic Copper Etching As part one of my mission to make my studio practice healthier for me and any future babies, I decided to give electrolytic copper etching a try. It turns out it's so easy to do I am surprised more people haven't tried it. I downloaded an article from Art Jewelry about how to do it, but you can also find lots of good information floating around the internet.Basically, all you need to do is hook up a D battery to two pieces of copper suspended in a saltwater bath. One is the piece you are etching, the other can be any piece of scrap copper. To get set up, you need to attach your alligator clips to the lead wires on your battery holder. To get your metal ready, you need to get the piece you will be etching really nice and clean by scouring it with a scrub pad or heating and pickling it, then draw your design on with whatever resist you are using. It takes about an hour or more to get a really nice deep etch. Overall I am very pleased with this project.
The Amazing Power Of Quartz Crystals by Gregg Prescott, M.S.Editor, In5D.com Quartz crystal is one of the most powerful gemstones on the planet and is ideal for healing, chakra clearing, enhancing psychic abilities, emotional clearing, meditation, astral projection, lucid dreaming, dream enhancement and opening the 3rd eye.
