untitled Rare color film shows what London looked like in 1927 May 16, 2013 In 1927 Claude Friese-Greene shot some of the first-ever color film footage around London. He captured everyday life in the city with a technique innovated by his father, called Biocolour. Though we usually think of French names like Lumiere and Melies when we think of early film pioneers, Friese-Greene’s technique captures London in striking detail, as if putting the whole city in a time capsule. The people, most now long since gone, pass before us like ghosts. Urban Peek notes British Film Institute used computer enhancement to reduce the flickering effect of the original Biocolour and bring us this striking rare film which transports us back through time.

6 Reasons Why Designers Should Code I know, I know…none of us creative types want anything to do with coding past the very basic HTML/CSS we need to know to get our designs to the developers. Why should we enter the trenches of development when it’s so nice up here with the Photoshop brushes, afternoon tea, and MacPros? Because you’ll be a better designer for it. Skeptical? 1. I’ve worked with and known many designers who knew only the bare minimum needed to get their designs out of Photoshop and into a web format. Knowing how to write your own standards-compliant XHTML will make you a valuable addition to any web team (emphasis on the standards-compliant part). 2. And while we’re talking about standards-compliant code, we should mention SEO. If you can learn to write your own code, you’re much closer to being able to list “SEO Compliant Designs” on your sheet of available services. 3. 4. 5. 6. Are you a designer that codes?
