Self Storage And The American Dream We all have visions of what the American Dream is. A white picket fence surrounding a lush green yard, where our children are playing in the sprinkler as Bubba the bulldog chases them around barking in pure joy. The Jeep Liberty and Toyota Camry are parked in the two car garage of the four bedroom, two story Cape, with a fire pit and patio in the back yard, where Dad is out grilling hot dogs on his new Weber grill, for everyone to enjoy in the spring time sun. While everyone’s idea of the American Dream may be a little different, most can agree that it’s what we all strive to attain. It seems like only yesterday, spending the weekend on the lake in our new 16 foot Wellcraft boat was a common occurrence, and putting an in-law apartment addition above the garage for Grandma was the norm. Many Americans have been forced to make drastic decisions due to job loss and other external factors, which have altered their lives significantly.
Self Storage Gains Cachet as Values Rise Economic Security Gets an Average Grade New Jersey lawmakers could be doing much more to improve the economic security of their constituents, according to a state-by-state scorecard from Wider Opportunities for Women(WOW). The state received a ‘C’ for policy choices made by legislators that directly affect families’ and seniors’ economic security, or their ability to afford basic needs like housing and food. The scorecard examined 85 policy choices. New Jersey ranked seventh among the states and the District of Columbia, which means a ‘C’ grade isn’t too harsh when considering the nation as a whole. “(New Jersey) received the second-highest number of A’s, but it also received a lot of F’s and D’s,” said WOW Acting President and CEO Shawn McMahon. The state saw grades in the ‘A’ range for expanding family leave, as well as its policy of allowing a resident to freeze their credit scores when there’s the potential for identity theft or fraud, but New Jersey received failing grades for a lack of sound sick day policies.
SELF storage operator BiG Storage is eyeing expansion this year after securing a £11m refinancing deal. Self storage operator BiG Storage is eyeing expansion this year after securing a £11m refinancing deal. The Nantwich company has a £5m turnover and is led by serial entrepreneur Andrew Donaldson. It current has six sites in Chester, Warrington, Wilmslow, Macclesfield, Lancaster and Morecambe but hopes to open more by summer. That is on the back of completing a five-year refinancing deal with Allied Irish Bank. It replaces the previous funding agreement BiG had with NatWest. Chief executive Mr Donaldson said: “Our existing funding was due to run out a year from now. “We have got a very competitive rate and this refinancing gives us a firm footing to look at expanding in the near future. “We are certainly going to consider expanding after the summer and possibly getting a new site in the north west. “Summer is our busiest trading period so we will consider our position after the dust has settled.” His first storage business was Rent-a-Space, which opened its first warehouse in Bolton in 1999.

Self-storage industry keeps on keeping | Business & Technology For an industry that emerged from nowhere with no inherent allure, no collective marketing savvy and no tangible product to take home, the rental self-storage industry has piled up impressive numbers. Fifty thousand storage facilities dot the American landscape, most of them austere, nearly windowless buildings wedged into commercial strips and industrial zones. That means the industry boasts more domestic locations than McDonald’s, Subway and Jack in the Box combined. With each storage yard containing, on average, 500 rental compartments, there are literally millions of garagelike vaults in which to store golf clubs, skis and old clothing, said R. Christian Sonne, a self-storage specialist at Cushman & Wakefield Western, an Irvine, Calif., financial-services firm. The combined square footage of those units is three times the size of Manhattan, by one calculation. And still do jumping jacks. “We were one of the first states to adopt this new business, 40 years ago,” Reilly said.

Moving Self Storage Like most people, I have moved around quite a lot in my years on this earth. Whether it be downsizing, temporary moves, moving in a hurry, relocating entirely or just moving across town I have literally done it all!! One thing that has really been helpful in all the many moves that I have experienced is the use of a self storage unit to help make my move easier! Honestly if it were not for self storage units, I would have been in a big pinch at some points while moving. When moving locally form town to town during a downsize situation, a unit provided by the local self storage facility is extremely helpful in so many ways! I was also in another situation where my lease was up on an apartment that I knew that I did not want to live in any longer and I had secure a new home at the time but the only problem was that I had a 2 month wait to get into the new place I had secured. Soon School Will Be Out As I was on my way to work this morning I had to stop a number of times because a School Bus was in front of me. I smiled, as I started to remember what it was like for me and my friends in the distant past. I am pretty certain that our parents had never imagined that today’s children would be picked up with almost door to door service by a big school bus to take us to school. There was no such thing as a cafeteria that made lunch for us. I bet it is rare the occasion when today’s child is given lunch in a brown paper bag. I am thankful that the weather is much nicer this week, than it was the past few. The high is expected to reach just about 80 degrees. Things are also beginning to pick up at the facility as well. People are commenting on the sign we have placed out front. A majority of the units that have been rented are smaller (5×5 and 5×10) sized units, to our new tenants. We had 2 guys chip in on a 10 x 15 sized unit for their bikes and trailer. Brought to you by :

VAT, self storage and the application of the capital goods scheme Capital Goods Scheme meets self storage The Capital Goods Scheme (CGS) provides for the adjustment of the VAT recovered by a business on land or buildings bearing capital expenditure of over £250,000. Adjustments are made over a 10-year period. Where a property owner had not previously opted to tax its supplies of self storage facilities under the previous regime, the property owner may have incurred VAT that would otherwise have fallen within the CGS, yet was unable to recover it as the building had been used for the exempt supply of self storage. As the supply of self storage facilities are now treated as standard rated, a property owner who previously made exempt supplies will now be in a position to benefit from the CGS. Capital Goods Scheme and smaller self storage providers So as to achieve its aim of taxing all self storage providers on the same basis, HMRC has permitted smaller business with buildings worth less than the usual £250,000 threshold to opt into the scheme.
