I came across several articles where individuals had used the classic tales animated by Walt Disney to encourage student learning. After thinking on this I had an epiphany: What if I could have students use their historical knowledge gained throughout the course to pick out the inaccuracies in Disney films? After extensive planning, I was able to develop a project that embodied the analysis of historical context, a fun animated classic, and also primary sources. Summarize the story as portrayed by Disney.Determine the origins of the fairy tale. As with any new project, there is always some trepidation as to whether the outcome will be as desired. At the end of this project, I was more than impressed. References:

Thriller for Halloween Raise your hand if you have never seen Michael Jackson’s Thriller video. No hands? Right! Just what I thought! You might like it or not, but what is undeniable is that this video has become a classic. I was racking my brains about the activity I could give my students for Halloween this year when suddenly the image of the undead rising out from their graves in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” appeared in my mind out of nowhere. A spooky video but also a masterpiece. Level: Intermediate to Advanced Time required: about 60 minutes Ask students some of these questions: Do you believe in ghosts? Pdf of the lesson here.
