Top 100 April Fool's Day Hoaxes of All Time As judged by notoriety, creativity, and number of people duped. On March 31, 1989 thousands of motorists driving on the highway outside London looked up in the air to see a glowing flying saucer descending on their city. Many of them pulled to the side of the road to watch the bizarre craft float through the air. The saucer finally landed in a field on the outskirts of London where local residents immediately called the police to warn them of an alien invasion. Soon the police arrived on the scene, and one brave officer approached the craft with his truncheon extended before him. When a door in the craft popped open, and a small, silver-suited figure emerged, the policeman ran in the opposite direction. On 1 April 2008, the BBC announced that camera crews filming near the Antarctic for its natural history series had captured footage of Adélie penguins taking to the air.

China's Abandoned Wonderland
In Chenzhuang Village, China, about 20 miles northwest of central Beijing, the ruins of a partially built amusement park called Wonderland sit near a highway, surrounded by houses and fields of corn. Construction work at the park, which developers had promised would be "the largest amusement park in Asia," stopped around 1998 after disagreements with the local government and farmers over property prices. Developers briefly tried to restart construction in 2008, but without success. The abandoned structures are now a draw for local children and a few photographers, who encounter signs telling them to proceed at their own risk. While a true collector might still keep the empty glass around, most of us then dispose of the leftover container and move on. More than decor, candles can add nice mood lighting to a space – particularly when filtered through dark greens and browns of a glass wine bottle. Probably for safety reasons you do not find many home bottle cutter kits these days unless they are vintage/used ones – but find one and you can make any kind of customized, personalized, faux-engraved gift you want as the pictures above illustrate. These sound a bit complex, right?
