Frame your own artwork
For a while now I have wanted to make an art piece of my own to place above our humble dining room table. The problem? I am no artist. That's right, sometimes crafty girls cannot paint or draw.. or it may just be me. Either way, I have created a fabulous piece of "art" using scrapbook paper, ribbon, fabric, cardstock, embellishments, and any other scraps you have laying around the house. What you need: Large Frame with the piece of glass insert (I got mine on sale at Hobby Lobby. Here we go! Here are some close-ups of the different types of textures I used. Here is the end result. This project is a little time consuming, so mommies - plan accordingly! This is where the completed artwork will hang. Hope you try this fun project. And let your husband hang your framed artwork up. ;) Ciao bella,
Make-up Magnet Board
We all know with craft blogs that original ideas are often hard to come by, we find ideas we love and make them our own but we didn't come up with the idea ourselves. I feel like I've finally done something original here and I'm excited about it. I'll show you the finished product and then explain. Behold my Make-up Magnet Board. I have a friend who is beautiful and stylish and has always loved make-up but recently took a course that intensified her love. The basket was a mess and I was overwhelmed with all my choices never knowing what to use, digging through to see what I had and find what I wanted was a pain. I painted it (The hard way, with a brush instead of spray paint. I went to the hardware store and picked up some metal and had them cut it to fit inside my frame. Here comes the brilliant part though. Here's the stash of eye shadows we're talking about (I've even added a couple since this picture). Next I wanted a place to store my brushes and liners though.
Fire Pits
You gotta love the internet.... How else would you know how to make your own personal fire pit? I feel like I should post some sort of disclaimer stating that if you try one of these, and it catches you or your house on fire, then it's not my fault. That being said, fire is cool and these DIY projects allow you to play with fire the adult way- with some amount of carefulness. Take a look.... We won't be needing any of this in So.
Project 21 Week 23 – Crayon Alphabet
I have been really excited about this project for a while, ever since I spotted it here. I thought this was the cutest idea, and immediately rushed off to research where I could find nice cheap shadow boxes and crayons. Flash forward a few weeks once I had assembled all my supplies, and this is what you get: I chose the letter B to start in honor of my little guy Basel, my adorable long-haired dachshund puppy. Not to mention, its just an interesting letter. Then once I had the letter sized appropriately I printed it out, cut the paper to size for my shadow box (purchased at Michaels, though I have my eye on some square frames at Ikea) and started cutting up my crayons. The original poster had also broken her crayons into pieces, but I like clean straight lines and edges so I cut mine with my Olfa blade. I think not only do these make cute teacher gifts as the original post suggests, but how adorable for a kids room?! So go out and have some multi-colored fun today! Like this:
Necklace Holder
I found this genius idea to get my necklaces organized from and I thought I'd give it a go. 1. You will need a flat board to attach your knobs unto. You can be creative with this. For my board I'm using a piece of driftwood that I found at this beach on this trip. I got 4 out of my 5 knobs from our local habitat for humanity store for less than $1.00. 2. 3. 4. and now my necklaces are officially organized! See how I organized my earrings here. xo
Happy-Go-Lucky: Easy Candle Upcycle
How many of you have candles that look like this? I have an entire shelf of them hidden behind picture frames! So in an effort to declutter and get a little things organized before we decorate for the holidays I decided to take these ugly things and make brand new layered candles. This was such an easy project to do. I can’t believe I never did this before. All I needed to get were these wicks from Michael’s and one new glass container. Step 1: Melt your first candle down completely. Step 2: Place the new candle wick in your clean jar. Step 3: Pour melted wax into new jar. Step 4: Once the first layer of wax was completely hard, I melted the next candle down on the stove and poured it over the first layer. Step 5: Cut the wick. I tried to combined scents that complimented each other. Now I’m off to steal I mean collect old candles from my neighbors so I can make more!! Did I mention how nice your house will smell from melting the wax on the stove?
Pinterest Challenge: AZ Love / Nail and String Tribute to the Grand Canyon State
So I found Curiously Wrought's work through her Etsy on Pinterest the other day--how cute are these?! Click through the link below to check out my step-by-step tutorial: So although mine isn't PERFECT like hers are, I seriously love how it came out! I chose to go with an orange backdrop keeping the Grand Canyon in mind and how much I love those vibrant, orange sunsets! Which of the states would you make? And then it made it to my wall next to my desk! The finished product:
Permanent Marker DIY - Lebenslustiger.com
Would you like to do something really forbidden? Yes? Then grab a permanent marker and draw ONTO - for example - a seat cushion! Yes - your childhood desires are finally heard! It might only work on cotton and you should protect the backside of your work with slipping a plastic bag between the layers of your piece so the colors won't bleed through to the back. After you are done drawing, sprinkle about 10 drops ( depends on the size of your design - I used a lot more for the large "flower") rubbing alcohol onto the middle of your finished design and watch the magic evolving and spreading right before your eyes. Incredible fun and super easy. If you try it please let me know - I would love to see YOUR design! XOXO, Anette
Project 6: Canvas Art « A Smith of All Trades
You don’t have to know how to sew to work with fabrics. I’m OK at sewing, but my machine is missing the pedal… Oops. Here’s a different way to use fabrics — no sewing involved! Like I said I few posts ago, I’ve gotten really into making what I like to call “canvas art.” First off, you need some kick ass fabric. Anyway, I found this beautiful black, white and silver fabric a month or so ago at a local fabric store on the cheap, so I snatched it up not really sure what I’d do with it. The silver is actually metallic, too. For this project, I’m using small canvases. Cut out your fabric so you can wrap it up and over the back edges of the canvas. You need a staple gun and a lot of staples for this next part. Line up the edge of the fabric with the inner most side of the canvas and staple away. Stretch the fabric taut to on the opposite side and add your staples. At this point, you should have two sides opposite from one another stapled to the back of the canvas. Here are all three! Guest Post: Inspired by Valerie Boy
Today we have our first guest post from a cute and famous blog, theletter4! They are my idols because they have been on the Martha Stewart show... always a dream. I'll let them tell a little more about themselves below but here is a link and a few photos from their inspiration, Valerie Boy. I'm so honored to introduce myself here on Hello Hydranga!!! We are The Letter 4. A blog of 4 sisters with all different talents and tastes. I had a couple of blank canvas's that were calling my name and Valerie Boy's wall art inspiredthis cut canvas creation. So I sketched out some clouds on the back of the canvas. After I was done and my clouds had dried, I took an exacto knife and cut the top of my ridges on the clouds on the spots where I wanted the light to shine through more. I was so happy with the way it turned out! Perfect addition to my daughters room. Thank you so much again for having me Lindsey! xoxo
