This smoothie if very sweet and so it is perfect for blending with celery and parsley. Feel free to toss in some bitter greens like kale and dandelion as well. Parsley is the richest source of iron from any leafy green that you’d get from the supermarket. One cup contains 3.7 milligrams of iron, as well as 10% RDA (recommended daily allowance) of copper, 7% RDA of magnesium, 7% RDA of potassium, 6% RDA of zinc and 5% RDA of phosphorus. This smoothie is low in calories, but it has 11.2 grams of healthy fiber. Pregnant women should not consume parsley. Black Sticky Gingerbread Recipe I'm going to revisit a recipe I posted in 2005. I've experimented with a good number of gingerbread recipes in the years since I highlighted Regan Daley's Black Sticky Gingerbread. There were single, double, and triple ginger gingerbreads. Back then, here's what I said, "...The Black Sticky Gingerbread comes together like the cake that it is - straight-forward, unfussy, with a bit of kick and attitude. It all holds true. Just a quick mention that I like Wholesome Sweeteners or Plantation Organic Molasses, both are unsulphered organic, blackstrap molasses. Preheat the oven to 325F / 165C, with a rack in the center. Combine the butter, water, molasses, honey and brown sugar in a medium non-reactive saucepan and place over low heat. Meanwhile, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon, all-spice and cloves, and set aside. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for ~45-60 minutes. Serves 12-16. No judgement; in fact, last year at this time I was on a five-day juice cleanse so my juicer was working hard and I was feeling alive and clean. This year, though, I am more in the mood to make my ice cream machine hum rather than my juicer. So when a friend who is on a cleanse joked that we put the two together, I leapt at the challenge. This was one hell of a dare; aside from having no dairy or eggs, this ice cream needed to be sugar free. With that last nail in the coffin, I stepped way out of my comfort zone and into the test kitchen. Pretty much anything that makes ice cream ice cream was banned. Cream, however, is harder to replace. As for the sweetness, since sugar wasn't an option I leaned on juices. If you don't have a juicer, don't worry, you can get some from your local health food store.

It uses ingredients that are the basis of so much of my cooking – fresh Parmesan, garlic, basil and olive oil. You’d think I was Italian or something! I’m not but many years ago my husband swore that with enough garlic and olive oil I’d become Italian. Parmesan Cheese, one big brickGarlic, 6 to 8 cloves depending on how garlicky you want itOlive OilCrushed Red PepperFresh Basil Leaves Crush and peel the garlic. Cut the cheese into cubes or chunks. Whirl the garlic in the food processor until it’s just barely chopped. Pulse until the cheese is coarsely crumbled. Gradually pour in a bit of olive oil and pulse until it’s mixed. Add a handful of basil leaves and a dash or two of crushed red pepper. Refrigerate for a couple of hours or overnight before serving. Serve as an appetizer with crackers or sliced Italian bread.
