Klout Confirms 'Mobile Component' Is Coming
After announcing a new round of funding Tuesday, Klout told Mashable the undisclosed amount raised was a step up from previous rounds and that it now has the resources to work on a mobile initiative. Klout — which measures a social media user's online influence from 0 to 100 on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn and Foursquare — doesn't have an official mobile app, so this initiative could fill that hole in the San Francisco-based startup's growing arsenal. "The money is going to be used to really drive accuracy, transparency and utility," Klout CEO Joe Fernandez told Mashable.
Everything Is "With" Not "Instead Of"
Want to know if the Digital Marketing agency you're working with truly understands the "marketing" part of your business equation? All you have to do is see how well that Digital Marketing agency integrates with everything you're currently doing - from campaigns to other agencies. If all your Digital Marketing shop does is try to tell you that the "old ways" of Marketing and Communication simply don't work anymore, and you need to be shifting all of your marketing dollars to the online world, please do show them the door. Digital Marketing is not the silver bullet. Digital Marketing is not the only marketing a brand should be doing. Branding works.
The tweets that bond
Twitter , that form of social media in which we let others know our deepest thoughts in 140 characters or less, regularly takes a beating in the popular press. We remember Sarah Palin's infamous tweets and the parodies of those tweets , and wonder how people can be so foolish to (a) broadcast these messages, and (b) to waste time reading them. My students chide me when I suggest that they follow news about psychology, or just news in general, on Twitter. "I don't have 'a' Twitter," they proclaim proudly as if it was some sort of disease. These same students, I might add, feel no qualms about using Facebook to advertise just about everything they're doing at every minute of the day and night, and without the potential censorship of a 140 character limit.

ACLU sues school district for student's social media free speech rights
The ACLU has brought suit against the Minnewaska (Minnesota) Area Schools and Pope County over invasions of students' privacy relating to a pair of incidents. In the first incident, a 12-year-old student was disciplined for complaining on Facebook that she "hated" a hall monitor who was "mean" (the school characterized this as "bullying"). In the second instance, a sheriff's deputy and school administrators required the student to turn over her Facebook password after her boyfriend's mother complained that the student and her boyfriend had been talking about sex on the social network. In both instances, the student used her own, off-school computer to make the contentious remarks, after school hours.
Astronauts tweet from space - 08 Apr 2010 - Computing
Astronauts can now use social networking tools from outer space Nasa has implemented a new project that allows its astronauts to access and update their social networking profiles from space. The US space agency is using technology from enterprise software provider Citrix to create a home-like desktop experience, allowing astronauts to keep in touch with friends, colleagues and family via online social networks. A Citrix XenDesktop with high-definition HDX technology was recently installed on the Crew Support LAN, which provides astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) with direct, secure access to desktop applications and web sites from any location, including space. The new network incorporates virtual desktops powered by XenDesktop and WAN optimisation technology from Citrix Branch Repeater, which ensures reliable and secure communications. Nasa said that the project is part of an effort to enhance the quality of life for astronauts during long missions.
