IPad = Flipped Classroom Made Easy Yes, the Flipped Classroom (Video lessons watched before class time) is a fashionable topic but whilst there’s still chalk-and-talk together with standardised testing I feel I must continue to push it. And no, it’s not just chalk-and-talk in disguise. It creates a whole new learning environment for the student. I haven’t taught a whole class for 6 months! Flipping my classroom has changed my career. Why should all teachers flip their classroom? Online videos should replace all whole-class teaching because: Not every student listens to teachers when surrounded by distractionsStudents understand at differing levels when lessons are one-offsSome students need the teaching at a different pace (both faster or slower) to what’s delivered in the classroom. So here’s my workflow for those who are interested 1. 2. 3. STEP 1: Online Account setup Having a google/gmail account does automatically give you a YouTube account but you have to login to YouTube specifically to activate the video storage.

» Doceri and the Flipped Classroom: Audio/video screencasting coming this Spring Freedom to Teach The popularity of the Kahn Academy educational video library has moved the concept of the flipped classroom to the forefront of educational technology discussion over the past year. The resulting paradigm shift moves direct learning from the classroom to the student’s computer – outside of class – via videos that cover the basic lesson material. This flipped classroom model frees the instructor to use class time for project-based learning and meaningful interaction about the material. While instructors in higher education as well as the K-12 level are using standard videos made available by Kahn and others, there is an increasing desire among instructors to create their own screencasts – also called vodcasts – for use by their students and shared by other faculty. Incorporating audio/video screencasting into Doceri was a natural progression. “When I create a video lesson for students to access outside of class, I want to establish where and how students will gain that access,” said Dr.

wikispaces usare screen.com per registrare video In this post we will explore how to provide audio feedback for students using a screencast, and look at two tools available for doing this: Jing and BB Flashback Express. In an earlier post we explained how to provide audio feedback to your students by creating an audio file that you upload to Moodle. We later explained how you can also embed shorter audio files in a Word document, that you then upload as a response file for the student. A screen cast would allow you to record what happens on your computer screen as well as what you are saying, so you could talk about different sections of a student’s assignment, for example, while displaying those sections on the screen. JISC Digital Media provide a good introduction to screencasting: JISC Digital Media: Introducing Screen Capture Software There are plenty of screencasting tools freely available online. presentazione prezi flipped classroom Flip Your School Three years ago, more than half of the freshman class at Clintondale High School outside Detroit failed English in the fall semester. Failure rates for math, science, and social studies were similarly high. "It's unconscionable to have that going on in your building," says Greg Green, Clintondale's chief administrator. Something needed to change, and fast. So Green decided to do something revolutionary: He "flipped" the whole structure of the school day-students did "homework" in class and listened to lectures at home, after school. He began by asking one of his social studies teachers to try the flipped classroom model. Green wasn't armed with mighty resources. "If I can do this," Green says, "anybody can." About six years ago, while teaching chemistry at Woodland Park High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Jonathan Bergmann and colleague Aaron Sams came up with the notion of flipping teaching time and student assignments. "I had a personal conversation with every kid, every day.

Explain Everything X 4 Ways When it comes to flexible iPad apps, nothing quite fits the bill like Explain Everything. Developed as a screencasting app (in my opinion, the best in the app store), I have recently found that I am using the app for anything but screencasting. 1. Image / Poster / Graphic / Diagram Creator: The way I find myself using Explain Everything these days is as a platform to create images or posters. With the built in free hand cutout feature, the ability to import pictures from the iPad camera roll as well as any cloud platform that you have connected to the app, any image can be imported into a blank slide as part of a creation. 2. One of the most underutilized features in Explain Everything is the magnifying glass tool in the left hand menu. *Bonus Idea: Students can use the zooming feature when screencasting in Explain Everything as well. 3. 4. Explain Everything has the ability to open a number of file types using the iPad “open in” feature.

Flipped Learning Resources The Flipped Class: Myths vs. Reality Editor's Note: On the heels of our viral posts in over 100 countries about the flipped classroom earlier this year (links below), we asked Jon Bergmann if he could share some of the feedback he was receiving in light of the notable interest about this topic. The timing couldn't have been more perfect since he was about to leave for a conference about you-guessed-it, the flipped class. Here is Part 1 of our three part series The Daily Riff. See Part 2 and 3 links below. - C.J. Westerberg The Flipped Class: What it is and What it is Not by Jon Bergmann, Jerry Overmyer and Brett Wilie There has been a lot of interest in the flipped classroom.
