Department of Records - Luna The New York City Department of Records and Information Services announced the addition of 30,000 photographs to its on-line gallery. Some of the more unusual images from this series depict political groups monitored by the New York City Police Department's "Alien Squad." These photos range from Communist Party rallies in Madison Square Garden to the Nazi summer retreat in Yaphank, Long Island run by the German American Bund. These are among more than 2,000 photographs added from the NYPD departmental files and Emergency Services Unit (ESU), dating from 1928 to 1941. With this new group of photos, the online gallery now totals more than 900,000--the largest collection of historical images of New York City in the world. The Online Gallery provides free and open research access to items digitized from the Municipal Archives' collections, including photographs, maps, motion-pictures and audio recordings. Too Much Entrepreneurship Is a Bad Thing - Bill Taylor by Bill Taylor | 8:17 AM March 29, 2011 At the risk of sounding like a Grumpy Old Man, and with near certainty that this post will be roasted by many who read it, I am about to make the case that there is such a thing as too much entrepreneurship — or at least too much excitement about becoming an entrepreneur too early in life. I know, I know. This blog, and all of my work over the last 15 years, has celebrated the spirit of innovation, disruption, and changing the game. The Times piece was all about the new “War for Talent” in Silicon Valley, a replay of the battle waged more than a decade ago to recruit top-flight young engineers and coders from elite colleges and assorted countercultural pursuits. Talk about partying like it’s 1999: Zynga, the red-hot game maker, “dangles free haircuts and iPods to recruits, who are also told that they can bring their dogs to work.” All of this is pretty familiar, if slightly ridiculous, stuff. Here’s my major beef with what’s happening.

How to Apologize and say I’m sorry – The Perfect Apology How to apologize? What's the best approach to take? How do I say I'm sorry? These are questions we often ask ourselves when we are in a situation where we have offended or otherwise hurt someone. An effective apology is both a Science and an Art. The Art is in how you apply the Science—how you actually deliver the apology. There are obviously many different ways to apologize, but the ideal approach for your case depends on your answers to three straightforward questions. Who are you apologizing to? How close is your relationship with this person? How strained is your relationship as a result of the mistake? There are two basic ways to deliver apologies. There are many variations in both written and verbal apologies but keep in mind these two key points when thinking about how to apologize. A written apology gives the recipient the time to think about the situation and your apology, before responding. If the relationship is intimate then think about romantic ways to deliver the apology.

Kyle McDonald 7 Lessons from Building a $15-Million-a-Year Lifestyle Business with No Loans, VCs or Angel Money Since we started Mindvalley, we’ve blossomed into an award-winning company with over 100 employees and revenues past $15 million a year (50 million in Malaysian Ringgit). We’ve become one of the biggest sellers of educational content online (mostly in meditation and personal growth but we’re expanding fast into other fields). We just hit 1.3 million subscribers and our 200,000th paying student. But best of all, we’ve done it all without ever having to take any funds or loans. It did not happen fast. I started with $2,000, lost money in the first two months, became profitable in the third month and just kept reinvesting profits into the company. But the upside is total 100% ownership and a company that is built around my lifestyle, which means that it never ever feels like “work”. This is important to me. The Mindvalley Headquarters But the climb was hard and long. If I could advise younger entrepreneurs who are starting out so they avoid the dumb mistakes I made, here’s what I would say:
