The Egg The Egg By: Andy Weir You were on your way home when you died. It was a car accident. And that’s when you met me. “What… what happened?” “You died,” I said, matter-of-factly. “There was a… a truck and it was skidding…” “Yup,” I said. “I… I died?” “Yup. You looked around. “More or less,” I said. “Are you god?” “Yup,” I replied. “My kids… my wife,” you said. “What about them?” “Will they be all right?” “That’s what I like to see,” I said. You looked at me with fascination. “Don’t worry,” I said. “Oh,” you said. “Neither,” I said. “Ah,” you said. “All religions are right in their own way,” I said. You followed along as we strode through the void. “Nowhere in particular,” I said. “So what’s the point, then?” “Not so!” I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. “You’ve been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven’t stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. “How many times have I been reincarnated, then?” “Oh lots. “Wait, what?” “Well, I guess technically. “Sure.

Google and the future of search: Amit Singhal and the Knowledge Graph | Technology | The Observer Thinking about Google over the last week, I have fallen into the typically procrastinatory habit of every so often typing the words "what is" or "what" or "wha" into the Google search box at the top right of my computer screen. Those prompts are all the omnipotent engine needs to inform me of the current instant top 10 of the virtual world's most urgent desires. At the time of typing, this list reads, in descending order: What is the fiscal cliffWhat is my ipWhat is obamacareWhat is loveWhat is glutenWhat is instagramWhat does yolo meanWhat is the illuminatiWhat is a good credit scoreWhat is lupus It is a list that indicates anxieties, not least the ways in which we are restlessly fixated with our money, our bodies and our technology – and paranoid and confused in just about equal measure. That rate of change – of how we gather information, how we make connections and think – has been so rapid that it invites a further urgent Google question. "That's true," Brin concurred.

THE SUN WAS HIGH: DIY // Galaxy Jeans I don't want to enter in a "I liked galaxies before it was cool to like them" monologue, but I've always been obsessed with outer space! My brother and I used to visit the local library and borrow tons of books about galaxies, spaceships and planets. The obsession stuck and now, even my design portfolio is filled with space-inspired pieces. You'll need: - A pair of black jeans. - A spray bottle filled with two parts bleach (javel) and one part cold water - Some acrylic paints. - An old toothbrush - A sponge - Little containers/plates to mix the paint WARNING: As you can see, the pictures show both sides of the jeans. HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR DIY JEANS: As long as you are careful while washing them, the paint should not come off. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Did you enjoy this tutorial?

After 25 years of teaching, I’ve been through a fair amount of dodgy INSET/CPD. As a result I am something of a ‘visiting speaker’ sceptic. However, it hasn’t all been bad; far from it. Think, Pair, Share. I used to be a ‘hands up’ merchant just like a lot of people. But the solution came: Every time you ask a question, get the students to think first, then discuss it in pairs before they answer. I think it is worth revisiting just why ‘hands up’ is such a poor strategy: Only one person gets to answer at a time so you have no idea what most people are thinking. The answer can be offered before others have had a chance to work it out for themselves.Students can opt out of answering or thinking altogether if they choose to. An everyday hands-up moment.. So, what changes when you ask routinely, ‘in your pairs, discuss… I could go on…. it is just such a powerful change. For some it is about behaviour management. Dream Worlds Revealed On Canvas Along with some magnificent dreams, Jacek Yerka finds inspiration for his masterful paintings from his childhood memories: the places, remembered feelings and smells of 1950′s Poland. His paintings will take you through incredible worlds of imagination, bending reality in captivating and clever ways fit to inspire a novel or film.
