Or how to turn dresden fan blocks into octagons. I wanted octagons because it is easy to turn them into squares. My dresden fan blocks have 24 wedges. I use a 15 degre fan ruler to make them.

Flourishing Palms
Three days and two nights of almost non-stop sewing, away from home, were invigorating and draining. It's invigorating to be with 12 quilters who have different tastes, and fun to see them utilizing different techniques for creating quilts. Draining because I stayed up too late, including until 2 a.m. Sunday morning, sewing!
a creative mint
Hello, Last spring I was busy painting some watercolor patterns for Cloud9 Fabrics. They had contacted me after seeing some of my work online and I was thrilled to work with them. They were interested in printing some of my watercolors on an organic cotton voile. Voile is a very light and very soft fabric.
dip-dye lamp & pillow
when summer rolls around, i try as hard as possible to freshen up the cave that is my apartment. while the darkness does help to keep rooms cool, the mood can get a little depressing if i don’t inject a jolt of summer here and there. if you have a plain fabric lampshade, pillow, or any scrap fabric lying around, then you can easily create a completely new set of home textiles that have a lovely airiness and fresh color. dip dye is a very easy process; you can adjust the color saturation in a snap by adding water or dye, and you just keep dipping until you like the results! it’s good to have a few scrap pieces of fabric around for color tests, and a nice outdoor spot or some tarp to work on (as you can probably guess, it can get a bit drippy). you can also mix dyes to make an amazing range of hues, so feel free to experiment. have fun! -kate

I almost feel like I should be hiding this bit of my history because it makes me sound dinosaur-old, but... when I was a kid, my friends and I would walk to a little antiques store after school and buy penny candy to stuff into our backpacks. Then we'd head over to the library to hang out. The beloved store, which we all called the "Red & White," was in a building old as dirt ~ rickety and possibly haunted, just like a lot of the old houses in the small Connecticut town of my childhood.

Inside Quilters Newsletter
Most of the time I want to make interesting and attractive quilts, which require a fair amount of time, patience and thought, but sometimes I’d just like to get one done already. I was at sort of an in-between place recently, where I’d finished an involved project and I wasn’t sure that I wanted to get into another detailed and time-consuming quilt just yet. I wanted to make something quick, easy and fun. So I turned to my WIPs.
Oh, Fransson!
Today is my stop on the blog tour for the lovely and talented Jennifer Sampou's new fabric collection, Shimmer. Shimmer includes nature-inspired prints in beautiful earth tones, all with a little bit of irridescent, sparkling shimmer. Continue reading "Shimmer Fabric Blog Tour" » I really love the 14" center of the Aviatrix Medallion and I think it looks fantastic as a larger block. For these quilted pillow covers, I used 24" and 20" versions of the block.
