3 Must See TED Talks on Lucid Dreaming I can’t think of a easier way to introduce lucid dreaming—in all of its wonder, complexity and variety—than by watching these 3 inspiring TEDx talks. All told, we’re talking about 35 minutes. Enjoy. 1. Thomas Peisel. (12 minutes) First up, we have Thom Peisel at TEDxLowerEastSide in New York in late 2013. Five Best Headphones For very just slightly over $20, Monoprice 8323. Good ratings, good sound, and not uncomfy. Yes, exactly I would be very interested in that. Sennheiser makes a great pair for around $20. I had these for the longest time, and they were more than sufficient for such little money. I think in this case then, the best question to ask would be "Best headphones you'd be willing to spend $20 every 4 months on." I have a couple of pairs of Audio Technica ES7s, and I love them a lot. So I decided to pick up some cheapo Sony MDR-ZX300s just for casual walkabout use - cause I remember years back owning a similar model and their not sounding too bad. On the whole then, yes, these are a pair of headphones I wouldn't mind paying the $10 I paid for them.
Brain-Controlled Wheelchair Hello! A lot of people have written us saying they are building a Brain-Controlled Wheelchair, and that's great! We look forward to helping you get through the hard parts, but some of you won't need any help (maybe). This Instructable will show how to make a Brain-Controlled Electric Wheelchair, so that a person can become mobile without moving their body. This could be useful for people who are paralysed, and are unable to control parts of their body enough to physically activate the joystick of an electric wheelchair. The parts of this system include an electric wheelchair, a laptop computer, an Arduino, an interface circuit, an EEG headset, and a collection of ready-made and custom software. The software which was written specifically for this project (including the GUI and Arduino sketch) has been bundled with Puzzlebox Brainstorms, and is released freely under an Open Source license. Do not attempt to stop an electric wheelchair with your body.
Concern Over Lack of Regulation of Shadow Financial Institutions In the financial world, there is a narrow divide between heaven and hell. Frenchman Loïc Féry realized this when he was 33. He was a rising star in the banking world, managing the trade in complex loan packages for an investment bank. That was in 2007. Féry launched a hedge fund in London. But the Frenchman, who has become so successful that he was able to buy a first-division football club, FC Lorient, insists that companies like his make "a positive contribution to the real economy," because they manage risks professionally. Growing Concern About Lack of Regulation But banks, regulators, politicians and economists are worried about the parallel universe that has developed beyond the major banks. Within a few years, the volume of financial transactions in the world of shadow banks grew from $27 trillion to $60 trillion today. The man who is supposed to bring about the necessary change works in an office tower far away from major financial centers. Scant Information Poses Dilemma

Ditch the Buzzer: 4 New Futuristic Alarm Clocks for Optimal Sleep This article is part 2 of my sleep tech round up for 2016. This new burst of alarm clocks on the scene is important– because let’s be honest, our use of electronics (tablets, smartphones, TVs etc) dominates our bedrooms and pollutes our sleep. I struggle with this too. Sometimes I win, and admittedly, sometimes Netflix wins. But, hey, if we can’t get the electronics out of the bedroom, maybe one more device will save us! Note: I haven’t personally tested these devices, so these are not reviews so much as curated research and my thoughts on what makes them worth our while. Hello.is: Bedside Sleep Tracker Hello.is calls itself a bedside sleep tracker. The alarm also sounds nice: 15 programmable tones that gently awaken you near your targeted time when you are in a light stage of sleep. Of course, my iPhone has some pretty nice wake up tones, too. Wethings Aura: The Connected Alarm Clock The byline of the Aura is “high tech alarm hidden inside a stylish lamp.” Holi: The Smart Light Bulb

So can zapping the brain really induce lucid dreams? TL;DR answer: it’s beginning to look pretty likely. In case you missed it, in 2014 researchers in Germany confirmed that zapping the brain of subjects can routinely induce lucid dreams. (By zapping, I mean applying a low voltage current stimulation to the scalp). In the study, published in the journal Nature: Neuroscience, and conducted by Ursula Voss and her co-researchers at the University of Munich, subjects who had never had a lucid dream before went lucid in the lab. She looks well rested. Now, a start up called Aladdin wants to make this technology available for the public. As reported in a recent in-depth interview of CEO Craig Wess of Aladdin, on the Lucid Sage Podcast, this new headband may have perfected the recipe for lucid dreaming on command. Sounds promising, but unfortunately Aladdin just cancelled their Kickstarter when it looked likely the weren’t going to get their funding.
