A Pretty Life in the Suburbs: Black Lace Earring Holder
This weekend was very productive for me! Thank goodness, but I do believe my blogging mojo may just be back! Whew. I don’t know where it went, but good thing it seems not to have disappeared for life! I’m chalking it up to the dreary time of year it is here, and the fact that January/February were a little tough on me emotionally, but now the sun is finally coming out of the clouds. The first project I took on was just a little one, but for me it had big impact. I love those kinds of projects! So, let’s get started! And while I do like it, it didn’t quite work the way I wanted it too. I needed something to hold all the earrings that I have, including those with backings on them. Plus, I found that the metal wire was a bit harsh on my earrings, so I also wanted something a little softer. So I made this! I used lace and made an embroidery hoop holder! I have seen these pinned all over Pinterest, and I thought it was such a great idea! Perfect for earrings with backings, and hanging earrings.
does PINTEREST KNOW EVERYTHING?
We all love Pinterest and probably spend a little more time on it than we'd like to admit. Every time I'm on Pinterest, I see something else I want to try or make and usually, I do. So we figured, WHY NOT show you all of Pinterest endeavors and pick out the really awesome things from the not-so-amazing things. So from time to time that's exactly what we are going to do! 1K+ So here is the makeup we wanted to fix. Messed up makeup. Add alcohol. Mash the makeup and alcohol together with your finger. This is what it looked like when it finally mixed completely together. As you can see this gets really messy. All cleaned up. This is what they all looked like when we got them all mixed together. When it all dried this is what they looked like. So does Pinterest know everything? What other Pinterest projects do you think we should try? ***UPDATE 2/29- So this has proven to not be such a great fix.
A Chunky Throw Pillow - a Fabulous Finger-Knitting Project
Finger-knitting has done grown up, as I like to say. My latest finger-knitting project DIY is featured on Design*Sponge today. I have always thought finger-knitting quite beautiful. How sad that it is typically relegated to the world of “children’s” craft. Not that it isn’t a great craft for young children (to learn how, click here), but this pillow is here to step out and say, consider me. I think it is modern and updated and a perfect way to achieve that chunky knit look without actually knitting! Allie and I had so much fun making this pillow together. If you’re curious and would like to see more fabulous finger-knitting projects, check out this gallery of 5 Fabulous Finger-Knitting Projects by clicking the button below. I am actually off to Miami today for a long weekend with my girlfriends.

Freestyle Hot Mess Mommy Dress
So I found this fabric on ultra clearance at Joanne’s and I thought it could be pretty fabulous. I was in the mood to sew while little S was napping but didn’t have a pattern so I just started cutting and sewing and this is what I came up with. Note my husband’s mad picture taking skills that created a shadow to make me look ten pounds thinner then I have in years. Love him. I don’t have a full DIY but I did draw out a pattern of sorts if this seems like your kind of dress. It’s just really fun to kind of go at sewing freestyle and see what you come up with. And thanks for the post Craft Gossip! Here are the pattern pieces I used: So that ended up way huge but I didn’t want to make zippers or anything, so i made some pleats in the back piece. I hemmed the top edge of the front and decided to leave the neckline drapey. I also sewed them together under the armhole to the waist. Then i flipped it over and hemmed the sleeves. I think it turned out pretty fun!
Beach Towel Dress
School’s out and summer vacation is here!Have you taken a dip in the pool? Or hit the beach running? As a mom, water activities with kids is a juggling act. There’s a better way! I’ve seen beach cover-ups in stores for years. But with a simple beach towel, elastic thread, and your summer vacation dress pattern, you can easily make your own! Still on the fence about sewing with Elastic Thread? Time to sew something for YOU. I bought a beach towel at Target ($5.99, appx 56 x 29 inches). Then, you’re ready for the water! Wear your beach towel dress over your swimsuit, go for a dip, then throw it back on after you’ve been wet.It stays on well, keeps you dry, and allows you the freedom to accomplish 9 other things while your towel stays put. ….like squishing your toes in all that sand. Three cheers for Summer!
Hand-Crafted Etched Glass Bottles - Home for the Holidays
Some glass bottles are just too pretty and colorful to toss into the recycling bin. Instead of discarding them, I "etch" them for my own use and to give away as gifts. They're beautiful with flower stems tucked inside, and they make handy containers for bath salts and infused oils or vinegars. Materials: Contact paper—clear or light color Glass bottles or jars, washed, rinsed and completely dried Sharpie-type marker Craft knife such as X-acto Knife with new blade Wooden spoon Soft bristle brush Goggles or safety glasses An old long-sleeved shirt Rubber gloves or medical gloves "Armour Etch" Glass Etching Cream (Jo-Ann, Michaels and most other arts and crafts stores) Instructions: 1. 2. 3. perfection. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. —By Teresa Blackburn
Home Office Organizing Tips and DIY Projects
I finally found that part time job I’d been searching for, and this past Friday I started my first day of work as an office assistant. It’s a great job, and while I still have a lot to learn, I’m excited to not only be working for a small family owned company, but to have friendly and awesome co-workers as well. As it turns out, however, I now have two offices. The office at work and my office at home. While there’s not a lot I can do about the office that isn’t mine – at least there are no scary cubicles lurking about – I can find ways to make mine better organized. Desk space is always going to limit you, so the key to finding more space is looking up. Again, if your short on desk space then you don’t want bins stacking up for incoming and outgoing mail. Again, if you’re looking to create more desk space, look up, and organize with a wine rack. I Heart Organizing offers more insight into ways to create more room for more concise organization.
