And trying to find related content can also be difficult, depending on what data you’re looking for. But data visualizations can make all of that much easier, allowing you to see the concepts that you’re learning about in a more interesting, and often more useful manner. Below are 50 of the best data visualizations and tools for creating your own visualizations out there, covering everything from Digg activity to network connectivity to what’s currently happening on Twitter. Music, Movies and Other Media Narratives 2.0 visualizes music. Liveplasma is a music and movie visualization app that aims to help you discover other musicians or movies you might enjoy. Tuneglue is another music visualization service. MusicMap is similar to TuneGlue in its interface, but seems slightly more intuitive. Digg, Twitter, Delicious, and Flickr Internet Visualizations
Data Wrangler UPDATE: The Stanford/Berkeley Wrangler research project is complete, and the software is no longer actively supported. Instead, we have started a commercial venture, Trifacta. For the most recent version of the tool, see the free Trifacta Wrangler. Why wrangle? Too much time is spent manipulating data just to get analysis and visualization tools to read it. Wrangler is designed to accelerate this process: spend less time fighting with your data and more time learning from it. kiwitobes.com Comparison « Data Visualization I got this question often: which is the best Data Visualization product? Lets compare some DV platforms such as Spotfire, Qlikview, Tableau Software and the Microsoft BI platform (PowerPivot, Excel 2010, SQL Server with its VertiPaq, SSAS, SSRS and SSIS). 2 key factors for tool selection are which makes it easy to comprehend the data,price-performance Because modern datasets are huge (or growing very fast!) We also suggest for you to take a look on other comparisons: Altheon comparing Qlikview, Tableau and Omniscope and others (please ping me if you will find good comparison of DV tools). Notes. TIBCO is a vendor of the balanced Spotfire Platform: Spotfire Professional, Server, Enterprise and Web Players, S-Plus, DecisionSite, Metrics, Data Automation and Miner technologies, combining in-memory database with interactive Data Visualization, advanced analytics (S+), data mining and multi-filtering functionality. Putting Recommenders on the Map Classic Archapelago Metallands Indyana Grungium 22 free tools for data visualization and analysis Review April 20, 2011 06:00 AM ET Computerworld - You may not think you've got much in common with an investigative journalist or an academic medical researcher. Want to see all the tools at once? For quick reference, check out our chart listing all the tools profiled here. There are many tools around to help turn data into graphics, but they can carry hefty price tags. Related Blog Here's a rundown of some of the better-known options, many of which were demonstrated at the Computer-Assisted Reporting (CAR) conference last month. Data cleaning Before you can analyze and visualize data, it often needs to be "cleaned." DataWrangler What it does: This Web-based service from Stanford University's Visualization Group is designed for cleaning and rearranging data so it's in a form that other tools such as a spreadsheet app can use. Click on a row or column, and DataWrangler will suggest changes. What's cool: Text editing is especially easy. Skill level: Advanced beginner. Runs on: Any Web browser.
VBOpenGL type library v1.2 Version 1.2 of the type library is a consolidation of Patrice Scribe's 'Microsoft OpenGL Type Library 1.1' and the previous versions of VBOpenGL.tlb. There are 2 sets of OpenGl dlls, one from Microsoft and one from SGI. The first file is for Microsoft, the second for SGI. Unless you have installed the SGI implementation of OpenGL, you should use the type library for the Microsoft dlls. [What's the difference? Download VBOpenGL 1.2 for Microsoft (approx. 180K) Download VBOpenGL 1.2 for SGI (approx. 180K) Download GLSGI.bas for SGI - Use these declarations to get the SGI dlls working. Installation: Expand the zip file and move 'vbogl.tlb' to a directory where you intend to leave it. Both of the type libraries above include a lot of declarations of Win32 functions. VBOpenGL 1.2 - OpenGL only (approx. 90K) About GLUT: The type library includes declarations for GLUT 3.6. About Type Libraries: A type library effectively adds any dll to the native VB language.
data made shiny :: thunderbird, gloda, exptoolbar, protovis, paninaro, oh oh oh Thunderbird. With the global database, gloda. Using the exptoolbar extension. What you are looking at: The exptoolbar search results page, augmented with a visualization. Each conversation with search results gets its own wedge. Things that are happy: protovis is delightful, even at this early stage of its development. The radar-styled visualization looks fairly neat, and basically proves at least feature parity with my visophyte-based radar visualization. Things that are sad (aka caveats): It would probably be better if the visualization was not radar-inspired. Future work: Interactivity.Perhaps showing the gravatars for the people involved in a conversation at the outer rim of the wedge, positioning them based on the author positioning we determined.Perhaps lose the radar motif.Your thoughts / patches!
Protovis Protovis composes custom views of data with simple marks such as bars and dots. Unlike low-level graphics libraries that quickly become tedious for visualization, Protovis defines marks through dynamic properties that encode data, allowing inheritance, scales and layouts to simplify construction. Protovis is free and open-source, provided under the BSD License. Protovis is no longer under active development. The final release of Protovis was v3.3.1 (4.7 MB). This project was led by Mike Bostock and Jeff Heer of the Stanford Visualization Group, with significant help from Vadim Ogievetsky. Updates June 28, 2011 - Protovis is no longer under active development. September 17, 2010 - Release 3.3 is available on GitHub. May 28, 2010 - ZOMG! October 1, 2009 - Release 3.1 is available, including minor bug fixes. September 19, 2009 - Release 3.0 is available, including major performance improvments, bug fixes, and handy utilities such as scales and layouts. Getting Started How does Protovis work?
