Elvis in potato chip neuroscience A new study just published in Cerebral Cortex on the neuroscience on how we see meaningful information in unpatterned visual scenes, seems a little fixated on Elvis. The study concludes: Future studies of the neural processing relevant to pareidolia and to meaning more generally may provide novel insights into how the organization of conceptual processing differs across individuals (see also Pizzagalli et al. 2001), thereby addressing the question of what neurocognitive architecture is necessary to see a potato chip not just as a tasty snack but as the embodiment of Elvis. They even include a photo of the potato chip (proper spelling: crisp) that supposedly contains the image of The King which you can see above. Unfortunately, I can’t see it, which I suspect means my brain has been ruined by the overuse of Fidonet as a child. Link to Elvis obsessed neuroscience study.
Your Cosmic Clock Want to be happy? Don't live in the UK | Money Miserable weather, not enough holidays, and lower life expectancy ... why live in the UK? Photograph: Gerry Penny/EPA The UK and Ireland have been named as the worst places to live in Europe for quality of life, according to research published today. The UK has the 4th highest age – 63.1 – at which people choose or can afford to take retirement, and one of the lowest holiday entitlements. UK workers enjoy a week less holiday than the European average and three weeks less than the Spanish, while the UK's spend (as a percentage of GDP) on health and education is below the European average and UK food and diesel prices are the highest in Europe. Ireland has the lowest numbers of hours of sunshine, the second lowest government spend on health as a proportion of GDP and the second highest retirement age of 64.1. If that's not bad enough, France, Spain, Germany, Holland, Sweden and Italy all enjoy a longer life expectancy than the UK, according to uSwitch.com's latest Quality of Life Index.

(ats/ap)
great ages and cycles The Great Ages in astrology are an Earth phenomenon based on the Earth's precessional wobble -which is in turn a Solar or Sun-directed event. Information is downloaded from our main Sun to our planet's inner sun and effected through the vast fields surrounding our planet. These fields in turn, affect the fields of all life forms on the planet. Everything is fields affecting fields, and the stars, planets, and life forms serve as the anchor points. Astrology is the key to understanding the Great Ages and other vast time cycles affecting our Earth and cosmos. Here on Earth, the 24-hour(23hrs56min to be precise) day is our basic time cycle based on the Earth's rotation around its central inner sun axis. The Earth has its own field which interacts with the inner sun field(hence two magnetic poles) and also sustains or regulates the planet. Our next major time cycle is the year which is based on our planet's orbital relationship to the Sun. What about astrology?
New test for consciousness in 'comatose' patients The Coma Science Group (CRCyclotron, University of Liège /Liège University Hospital), led by Dr Steven Laureys, has developed, along with its partners in London, Ontario, (Canada) and Cambridge (England), a portable test which will permit a simpler and less expensive diagnosis of 'vegetative' patients who still have consciousness, despite the fact that they do not have the means to express it. The researchers' conclusions are published this week in The Lancet. The desire to develop this simple test of consciousness, at the patient's bedside, follows on from previous research carried out by the Coma Science Group. Professor Steven Laureys and his colleagues had in effect already demonstrated, in 2009, that 40% of so-called 'vegetative' patients had been badly diagnosed and that in reality they retained a certain degree of consciousness. The new test described this week in The Lancet should change this situation.
M. Fumagalli - The calculation of the lots, according to Placidus According to the system of Placidus, the lots may be defined as the points of the local space chart which, having the same declination as the point B, are as many degrees away from it in right ascension (RA), as the point C is away from a point A in oblique ascension (OA) and in the same direction. The points A and B may be planets, house cusps or even lots; the point C is usually the oriental horizon or horoscope (hor). The name and the astrological meaning of the lot depend on the quality of the points A and B, on the basis of which the lot is calculated: the lot calculated from the Sun to Saturn is called the father's lot as these two celestial bodies are the significators of the father. Two general formulas for the calculation of the lots may be expounded, one which makes possible to find its AR and another its AO: OA (hor) - OA (A) + RA (B) = RA lot OA (hor) - OA (A) + OA (B) = OA lot by day: OA (hor) - OA ( by night: OA (hor) - OA ( 3. 4. 5. 6. tang CH theta
Physics and Consciousness Body Energy Frequency by StarStuffs "To know the mechanics of the wave is to know the entire secret of Nature." Walter Russell The psychodynamics of the mind as an electromagnetic structure establishes the nature and reality of consciousness as an interdimensional energy process. It is an electrical process of cause and effect. Our consciousness determines our vibration (frequency and amplitude) When we realize that time and space are really ONE I think we then go beyond a simple understanding. This is what was talking about concerning frequency (time) and amplitude (energy)...and time traveling - and to me, this would mean being spiritually energized to walk in the 4th dimension freely. When our energy-amplitude is raised higher it is synonymous with our frequency (time) getting higher. For instance, You are standing by me...you raise your energy, which raises your frequency [if you are efficient at it {efficient in science is least amount of work for the energy expended)]. Love Asteroids - Astrology - tribe.net Iv been reading the latest 2008 astrolog, & found the article Love Astroids particularly interesting. The writer Pemo Theodore, writes that 'Comparing Mars in one's astro chart & how it relates to certain asteroids or mini planetsgives greater definition as to how Hot & exy you are, in the mating & relating game. Also if any of these asteroids are in high profile in your chart by house/sign or aspect to venus or mars, this will contribute to relating also. This also works for composite charts. CERES: Very sensual & passionate in lovemaking, with a strong desire to satisfy both desire for oneself & the other. The heat is high & many aids may be important ie, food, oils & luxurious settings. VESTA: mild force of sexual expression, tends toi be focused on the inner & more mental spiritual experience of relating, rather than physical. JUNO: A passionate focus on the partner, with the urge to protect each others vulnerabilities, & a drive for equality in sexual expression.
People will virtually kill one to save five It’s a moral and ethical problem that has been studied before: you see a train heading towards five hikers and you have the power to save them. Just pull a switch to make the train swerve out of the way on another track. BUT you’ll kill another hiker who won’t see the train coming at all. What do you do? Intervene? Or no? Variations on this have vexed philosophers (and their students) for decades. Full story at Discovery News. More news from Discovery Communications. Photo credit: Fotolia
Romantic Compatibility Synastry Analysis in Astrology Romantic compatibility analysis: Synastry & Relationship Astrology Back to Synastry Main Page On our main Synastry page, we offered an overview of considerations for compatibility. On our House Overlays page, we examine person A's planets in person B's houses, and vice versa. On our More on Synastry page, we explore more Synastry details and compatibility factors. It is easy to feel overwhelmed when we attempt to compare two natal charts of people involved in a romantic relationship or of a potential relationship. Some astrologers have put together score sheets that help students of astrology organize their findings and come to an overall "judgment". For example, most chart calculation programs will tally up the number of planets placed in the elements (Fire, Earth, Air, and Water) for a given natal chart. Consequently, I have devised my own romantic compatibility "score sheet", but I feel the need to list all sorts of disclaimers at the same time! None of these weights are absolute.
