AM and PM Workouts by Stew Smith One of my favorite things to do is to workout in the AM and PM. I find often due to my schedule that a tough workout needs to be split into two different workouts in the same day. Here is the question: "I would like to know if when I workout in the morning at home, on the days I work out, could I do some more workout routines at the office? By doing more exercises at the office after my initial work out, does this hamper the rebuilding of the torn muscle fibers that occur from the first work out? I have found over the years, this type of split routine works well to burn additional calories in the day and help speed up the metabolism in the evening when it naturally tends to slow down. 1) Recovery is Important You have to be creative if you do a two-a-day routine. 2) Leg PT is Different I would definitely only do leg workouts once a day, though I would not count a run or bike as a leg workout, but as a cardio workout. 3) Morning Workout Meal Two-a-Day Workouts * Repeat Four Times

Pull-up Push Workout by Stew Smith Getting better at pull-ups is a subject of concern for many people. As with the "Pushup-Push Workout," this idea makes little sense physiologically, but it works. You never want to have an extended period of repeating the same exercises day after day, but you can do this workout for ten days, rest for three or four days with no pull-ups, then test on day 14 or 15. Here is a question from a Marine Reservist wanting to max his PFT of 20 pullups: "Where can I find your pull-up routines outlined? After the unbelievable success from the "Push-up Push Workout," in which people doubled their pushups in two weeks, I performed the same test on pull-ups with (young and old) students with similar success. Here is what you need to try for a two-week period: - Do your regular workout program, but for 10 straight days do an additional 25-50 pullups. - If you are only able to do less than 5 pull-ups: do 25 pull-ups for your daily plan below: Odd Days (Supersets OR Pyramids): Even Days:

Your Lungs & Respiratory System Listen Time for Talk Your lungs are important for breathing . . . and also for talking! Above the trachea (windpipe) is the larynx (say: LAIR-inks), which is sometimes called the voice box. Across the voice box are two tiny ridges called vocal cords, which open and close to make sounds. The amount of air you blow out from your lungs determines how loud a sound will be and how long you can make the sound. Experiment with different sounds and the air it takes to make them — when you giggle, you let out your breath in short bits, but when you burp, you let swallowed air in your stomach out in one long one! Love Your Lungs Your lungs are amazing. Keeping your lungs looking and feeling healthy is a smart idea, and the best way to keep your lungs pink and healthy is not to smoke. Finally, cigarette smoke can damage the cells of the lungs so much that the healthy cells go away, only to be replaced by cancer cells. You can also show your love for your lungs by exercising!
