Web Video Content Marketing: How To Approach It Successfully - O Web video is hot. Some say your chance to be a pioneer. How hot, and how much of an opportunity? Recent reports from comScore, consistently say more than 80% of the total U.S. Internet audience views online video in a given month. All this popularity has of course been driving a trend with marketers: the desire to create video as part of their digital marketing mix. Agency-side marketing/PR/digital pros: how many times have you had a client approach you after creating a web video and said “hey, we made this video, now make it go viral!” Client-side marketing professionals: how many of you have had a CMO suddenly discover web video, only to enthusiastically push the team to concept something “because our competitors are doing it.” Due to these mistakes (and many others) most companies get web video dead wrong. The real question you need to ask yourself is why am I making web video? “Let’s make something viral” vs. let’s create an ongoing dialogue By now, most companies understand blogging.

How to Make an Award-Worthy Vine Movie You might be surprised at what can be done with six seconds of video, but the Tribeca Film Festival is going to find out. The New York-based festival has invited people to submit entries using Vine, an iPhone app that makes six-second, looping videos. Since the announcement last month, hundreds of entries have been posted to Vine using the official hashtag #6secfilms. Although a Vine is only six seconds long, making one can take hours. Things didn't go as planned for her third festival entry, so she's trying again. "One thing I've learned is to keep it simple," she said. Most of Cignoli's Vines are time-lapse, stop-motion-animated videos. "It's important in stop-motion and time-lapse for the phone to be perfectly steady to capture the movement of the person or object," she said. Lighting is also important. "Daylight is always amazing, but make sure you are not creating a huge shadow with your body or with your camera," she said. "Dress yourself up. 0 of 10 questions complete 0 of 10

Five hidden dangers of Facebook (Q&A) | Security Facebook claims that it has 400 million users. But are they well-protected from prying eyes, scammers, and unwanted marketers? Not according to Joan Goodchild, senior editor of CSO (Chief Security Officer) Online. She says your privacy may be at far greater risk of being violated than you know, when you log onto the social-networking site, due to security gaffes or marketing efforts by the company. Facebook came under fire this past week, when 15 privacy and consumer protection organizations filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission , charging that the site, among other things, manipulates privacy settings to make users' personal information available for commercial use. Also, some Facebook users found their private chats accessible to everyone on their contact list--a major security breach that's left a lot of people wondering just how secure the site is. In two words, asserts Goodchild: not very. Below is an edited transcript of the interview. Certainly, there are growing pains.
Twitter bomb joker found guilty | Technically Incorrect - CNET N Courts do seem to find it difficult to see the funny side of things. Especially in the United Kingdom, where the lawyers who plead their cases appear to wear very unflattering wigs. So perhaps some might feel a little sympathy for Paul Chambers, who Monday was found guilty of tweeting "a message by means of a public electronic message that was grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character contrary to the Communications Act 2003." Some of you may not recall the contents and context of Chambers' tweet . So he tweeted to his 600 followers the following feelings of frustration: "Robin Hood airport is closed. I know, I know. It seems the tweet was only spotted when an off-duty manager at the airport did a Twitter search for "Robin Hood airport." The result was a fine and costs totaling around 1,000 British pounds. He has been inundated with messages of support and offers to pay his fine-- some, even, from famous people. Yes, Britain is, indeed, very lovable.
