Nanaimo Bars
Other than my short stint as a resident of New York City, I've never lived in a city with a "signature" food. I'm talking about claim-to-fame level: cheese steaks from Philadelphia, coffee from Seattle, Hatch chiles from New Mexico. These Nanaimo Bars are the ultimate signature food, from beautiful Nanaimo, British Columbia on Vancouver Island in Canada. Nanaimo bars are a rich, decadent, 3-layer, no-bake treat.
The Infamous Jacques Torres Chocolate Chip Cookies
Now, I have a chocolate chip cookie recipe that I swear by. I love it, I think it is incredible, and I haven’t changed my mind about that. However, as much as it pains me to say it, these chocolate chip cookies by Jacques Torres are absolutely, without a doubt, the best chocolate chip cookies that I have ever made or tasted in my entire life. I guess that’s why they call him Mr. Chocolate! These are a chocolate chip cookie of another color, that’s for sure.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars
There is a deli near my house that makes the most amazing chocolate peanut butter bars. I have been trying to come up with a copycat version of them for some time & this recipe is pretty much it. I thought they would be a great dessert to make for the bake sale, as chocolate/peanut butter desserts are very popular & these are super simple & don't require any baking! I cut them into 2" bars for the sale, but 1" bite-sized bars would be ideal, as they are very rich. They sold out faster then anything else at the sale...I wish I had made more.

Homemade Chocolate Syrup Recipe
I love it when I can easily make something at home and it turns out to be just as good or better than the more expensive store-bought kind. I’ve been wanting to try some homemade chocolate syrup. The basic recipe is very simple, but there are a few variations of it, so the other day I decided to experiment with them and have a chocolate syrup taste test. Not a shabby way to spend the afternoon! The one I liked the best was from Amy Dacyczyn’s The Complete Tightwad Gazette.

Almond Chocolate Toffee Brittle Recipe
A few Christmas’ ago, my sister was telling me about these cookies she made for a cookie exchange using saltine crackers. The moment she used the word saltines, she lost me. However, because she has good culinary taste buds (it must run in the family) I thought I would give it a go and make them for myself to try. All I have to say is that I’m a fool for waiting this long to make these yummy treats.
