MAP MONSTERS Learning Geography can become more fun when students are encouraged to add an artistic touch. Map Monsters is a wonderful cross-curricular activity that I do with my students that incorporates Geography, or reading maps and visual arts. After learning a particular geographic of an area of the world the children look for monsters hidden along the borders of the countries! Using whatever drawing tools are handy the monsters begin to climb out of the map! Students enjoy learning the objectives of art and geography through creative experiences. Step 1: Supplies Supplies for this project are very basic. Step 2: White out Oh and white out (or acrylic paint) is perfect for eyes and teeth! Step 3: First step First take a look at the map to find a monster image hidden somewhere along a countries border or deep in the mountains.... Microsoft Translator | Conversations | Break the language barrier #inTLchat It seems so simple that I cannot figure out why it didn’t hit us sooner. Putting an “in” in front of the #tlchat hashtag we’ve been using forever, changes everything. It’s sticky. It’s (of course) international. And it’s already gaining global traction. Teacher librarians are the ultimate connectors and I don’t believe we have yet realized our true global powers. Never before have we had truly effective tools for synchronous conferencing and media-rich asynchronous group discussion. Members of our library community have been trying to launch a hashtag for bridging school librarians and schools across the world for years. The new #inTLchat hashtag should help us build community, amplify our learning, find partners and share projects! How did this get started? Conference #1 I was recently invited to the 21CLHK Conference in Hong Kong where I facilitated a full day of professional development for an international group of librarians. Conference #2: I couldn’t be more excited about #inTLchat!
