Hero’s Journey Analysis Joseph Campbell Chris Vogler The Writer’s journey Here you can download my analyses of how the great movies use the 12 steps of the Hero’s Journey. To be honest, they’re a bit rudimentary, but hopefully you’ll find them a bit useful. You might find it useful to also take a look at where I disagree with the Hero’s Journey and at my new character-driven Hero’s Emotional Journey. Step 1 – Ordinary World We see the Hero in their normal setting before the story comes to shake up their world. Step 2 – Call to Adventure The Hero gets a Call to Adventure, inviting their to leave their Ordinary World. Step 3 – Refusal of the Call Typically, the Hero will initially refuse this call – or reservations will be expressed by those around them. Step 4 – Meeting with the Mentor The Hero will then interact with a mentor figure, though not necessarily a wise old man with grey hair. Step 5 – Crossing the First Threshold The Hero finally leaves their ordinary world and enters the Special World where the story commences in earnest. Step 6 – Tests, Allies and Enemies

Vaempires: Revolution Takes the Evil Vampire Stereotype to a New Level This month, author Thomas Winship has released his new book titled “Vaempires: Revolution”. It is a post-apocalyptic story where an evil, mutated species of vampire start a rampaging effort to destroy humanity and take over the world. It is by and large another book that seeks to capitalize upon the booming genre of vampires that teenagers are consuming by the truckload in the form of books, movies and products. Unfortunately, the news of this book’s release, and its focus on making the already evil-tainted image of the vampire even more evil and vile, made me realize just how terrible it must be to live within the world that is currently defined by mainstream society as the “vampire.” The release of this book made me remember my foray into the world of vampirism nearly a year ago. In December of 2010, I conducted an interview with Joe Laycock, a modern-day "vampire-hunter" if there ever was one. During medieval times, the world was in a constant state of war, disease and famine.

And if any other budding author publishes my terminology in a book (whether or not you give me credit) without my permission, I WILL pursue legal action against you. IT IS MY DOCUMENT! This is a non-comprehensive listing of the terminology and lingo used by those in the vampiric community. I have added a section after all the terms with links to other sites' glossaries and terminology pages. These terms all have anchors, in case you may be interested in linking to a particular term / definition. I created this document in its original form in 1997. I would like to thank Michelle Belanger ( www.kheperu.org ), Father Sebastian ( www.sanguinarium.net ), and Damien Daville ( www.vampire-church.com ) for their input when I lent my terminology document to COVICA to develop for the vampire community. Laura Diehl Illustration - Freelance Fantasy Illustrator | Children's Fantasy Illustrator | Science Fiction Illustrator How Witches Went From Folklore To Feminist Icons There are an overwhelming amount of ways to dress up for Halloween, but nothing can top the most popular Halloween costume in the U.S., at least according to the internet, and that's the witch. Witches aren't just Halloween icons; they've become an icon of feminist empowerment too. There's a growing community around witchcraft today, from casual interest in the culture and wellness practices to self-identified practicing witches casting spells. In the Middle Ages, people were somewhat okay with the idea that some people had "magical" expertise, according to Marion. "In most villages, there would be at least a couple of people who thought that they could undertake magical healing, but from the Tudor period onwards, there's an increasing concern that people who have some kind of magical or magical knowledge might well be in league with the devil," Marion said. In the 15 and 1600s, there were waves of brutal witch hunts. Halloween Costumes Have Grown Into A Billion-Dollar Industry U.S.
Life-Size VW Beetle Becomes a Reef Artist Jason deCaires Taylor shocked us when he first announced that he was submerging over 400 cement sculptures for a new underwater museum in the National Marine Park of Cancun. The installation, called The Silent Evolution, opened to the public in November, becoming the world's largest museum of its kind. The sculptor's latest work, that joins the 400 sculptures, involves not just the human form but a life-size 8 ton cement replica of the classic Volkswagon Beetle! Called Anthropocene, it sits 8 meters deep at Manchones Reef in Cancun, Mexico. "The sculpture is designed specifically to house marine life whilst exploring the significant impact humans have had on our planets ecosystems and the subsequent affects to future generations," Taylor says.
