Brian Selznick | Author & Illustrator Hello there. My name is Brian Selznick and I’m the author and illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I was born in 1966 in New Jersey. My first book, The Houdini Box, which I both wrote and illustrated, was published in 1991 while I was still working at the bookstore. I have also written a few other books myself, including The Boy of a Thousand Faces, but The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Wonderstruck, and my new book The Marvels are by far the longest and most involved books I’ve ever worked on. I live in Brooklyn, New York, and San Diego, California, with my husband David Serlin. For a complete list of all my books, click here.

Kwame Alexander | Author Max Winston's Art and Such Rene Magritte: 100 Famous Paintings Analysis, Complete Works, & Bio Frances Hardinge | Author After she had won the 2015 Costa Book of the Year Award for The Lie Tree, an interviewer remarked to Frances Hardinge that not only was it the first children’s book to win the prestigious award since Philip Pullman’s The Amber Spyglass in 2001 but both books showed ‘a willingness to tackle complex moral issues and make them accessible to children’. Hardinge replied that ‘first and foremost, I tell stories’, however, she continued, ‘I tend to assume that young readers can understand quite a lot, so… some of my stories have included things that are actually quite dark’. She admitted also, ‘my books tend to be a bit of an odd mix’ and ‘I can’t quite control the impulse to fiddle and make things more odd’. In The Lie Tree, these dark things include the death by presumed suicide of its teenage heroine Faith’s father, the Reverend Erasmus Sunderly. Hardinge has commented that she is ‘fascinated by questions of identity’. Jules Smith, 2017
pierremartin Caia Koopman | Pop Surrealist Steve Jenkins | Author & Ilustrator Half the earth's surface is covered by water more than a mile deep, but most of this watery world is a mystery to us. In fact, more people have stood on the surface of the moon than have visited the deepest spot in the ocean. Come along as we travel down, down, down, from the surface to the bottom of the sea. Along the way you can see jellyfish that flash like a neon sign, creatures with teeth so big, they can't close their mouths, and even a squid as long as a bus, which battles to the death with a sperm whale, the largest predator on earth. 40 pages Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2008 Reviews For capturing the scale and biological richness of the ocean in a picture book, it seems hard to do better than "Down, Down, Down." — New York Times Book Review In this plunge into the deep, Jenkins displays his usual keen awareness of what is fascinating about biology and imparts it without sensationalism—the facts speak for themselves. — Booklist — Kirkus Reviews — School Library Journal Awards
