Happy Things for Kids Cape Town’s World Design Capital 2014 inspection – Images and insights from day 1 Today was the first day of the official World Design Capital 2014 visit, and it started early with breakfast (and if photos are anything to go by, broad smiles) at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). There our visitors were warmly welcomed by City of Cape Town Executive Mayor Patricia de Lille and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and introduced in person to the city’s bid and visitor offerings. Here are a few insights and images from the morning. (All images are courtesy of Bruce Sutherland of the City of Cape Town) “Embrace the city and all it has to offer, as much as we [the city] embrace you.”

Howie Owl – hoot hoot! « 3EyedBear The first kit of the new year is this deceivingly simple looking little owl to expand the bird-population in 3EyedBear’s universe. We all know owls are one of the wisest creatures and this one certainly will be one day too. Thing is: she’s still very young and inexperienced, but she compensates that with a passion for reading thick books while you sleep. It don’t hurt to have her posted in your bedroom since owls hunt for little scary creatures by inborn instinct. She will watch over you.

Full House Interior Made From Wood Wood is really nice material to build anything that is touchable and I have seen a lot of different wooden house interiors but this one is way more bizarre of all of them. Venetian sculptor Livio De Marchi wasn’t satisfied only with regular furniture that can be made from wood, he decided to make almost everything in his house from wood and as you can see from following photos he done that pretty well. If you look in his wardrobe which is, of course, made from wood, you’ll find there a beautiful suit made from wood.
