speech accent archive: how to How to use this site Welcome to the speech accent archive. Each individual sample page contains a sound control bar, a set of the answers to 7 demographic questions, a phonetic transcription of the sample,1 a set of the speaker's phonological generalizations, a link to a map showing the speaker's place of birth, and a link to the Ethnologue language database. The archive also contains a set of native language phonetic inventories so that you can perform some contrastive analyses. If a particular sample does not have a phonetic transcription nor a generalizations page, please be patient—all samples will eventually be complete. To hear each sample, just click on the pause/play button of the sound control bar. To learn more about the phonological generalizations, click on this generalization definitions page. To see a pop-up window of a map of the speaker's place of birth, click on map. The archive is continually growing. How to cite this site Weinberger, Steven. (2015). Methodology

Weekly Frequency Hello to readers in Galway! It’s always interesting when the stars make “confrontation” their default setting. And I’m using “interesting” in that enigmatic and loaded way we’ve come to use the phrase, “May you live in interesting times”—a phrase wrongly attributed to an ancient Chinese curse, but nonetheless part of our modern vernacular. The fifth Uranus/Pluto square that occurs on April 21—the one we are currently approaching—is probably best described as the most confrontational in the series. The mounting tension of this Grand Cross is sure to show itself as behaviors, our own or others’, that we can no longer tolerate. The best way to handle this astral tightening is to refuse to take any unnecessary action. As the coming weeks unfold, pay attention to where you are tightening your grip and then be determined to release it. There are no Sun Sign blurbs this week. Click here to see past weekly frequencies
I Went on a Wizard Quest A few months ago, I had the most fun I have ever had in my entire life at a place called Wizard Quest in Wisconsin. I've been trying to explain exactly what it is to people ever since, but haven't had much luck. According to their website, it's a "13000-square-foot fantasy-themed labrynth (we call it the quadrasphere)." But that doesn't make it sound anywhere near as awesome as it actually is, so here's a blog about it. If you intend to visit this place in the near future, maybe don't read this blog. These photos make this place look crappy, but that's just because I didn't realize I'd be blogging about Wizard Quest, so the camera I took along wasn't really up to the job. Anyway, this is where our adventure started: in a library room with talking, mystical plasma screen picture frames. Once the mystical plasma screens had explained our mission to us (something about freeing four wizards trapped in elemental realms) this bookcase opened up into a "vortex tunnel." And a mirror maze...
