Postful: The Web's Printer The Secret Law of Page Harmony “A method to produce the perfect book.” The perfect book. This is how designer-genius Jan Tschichold described this system. Not the ok book, nor the pretty good book, but the perfect book. This method existed long before the computer, the printing press and even a defined measuring unit. And you can still use it. The Secret Canon & Page Harmony Books were once a luxury only the richest could afford and would take months of work to be brought to fruition. And they were harmoniously beautiful. The bookmakers knew the secret to the perfect book. So elegant is this method of producing harmony that a few designers saw to rediscover it. They found the way to design a harmonious page. There’s a dance to all this Let’s look at this dance, shall we? And here it is with them (using the Van de Graaf Canon and Tschichold’s recommended 2:3 page-size ratio, which we’ll get into next). Setting Freelance Web Design Rates — Good Karma Host Some time back, I wrote an article on setting web desgin rates and it continues to get a fair amount of traffic, so evidently this is an issue people are interested in. For all you aspiring web designers/consultants out there, here is how I set rates for web design and development during my freelance web consulting years–including plenty of the mistakes I made–maybe you can avoid some of ‘em! Alleged Posh Pimp Wants Seized Items Back LAS VEGAS -- A suspected pimp arrested while living in a multi-million dollar mansion tells the court he wants his stuff back. According to court records, Las Vegas police seized a diamond necklace, valued at $140,000 and a man's watch worth $8,000 during a search of Micah Duncan's home last March. Duncan's attorney argues the property should be returned because it is not related to the criminal investigation. A judge agreed earlier this month and now Metro is fighting that decision. In March, Metro's SWAT and Vice Details, along with investigators from the Internal Revenue Service, raided Duncan's $35,000 a month rental home in Lake Las Vegas. In addition to the jewelry currently in dispute, officers seized ammunition, a bullet-proof vest and $20,000 in cash. "Pimps and people who pander women are able to hide a lot of things. The judge ordered Metro to appear next month to show cause as to why it should not be held in contempt for failing to return the property.
