How to prevent wasps from nesting on your property VICTORIA – Barbecues and backyard gatherings are a summertime staple in Canada, and so are wasps, the uninvited guests with a painful sting. As the season continues, wasps become more aggressive and homeowners may begin to notice more nests around their property. Kurtis Brown, technical supervisor at Victoria Pest Control, says while his business is dealing with between 10 and 15 wasp nests per day, it is hard to quantify whether there are more of the insects this season. “As we approach peak summer time, and we get that nice heat wave, wasps really start to develop and nests really start to take off,” says Brown.

Consumer Reports: Top Child Safety Seats Consumer Reports tests to find the best child safety seats. The latest research shows children are safest if kept in a rear-facing car seat until the age of two, but most children will outgrow their infant seats much earlier. For newborns, infant car seats are the best option. They provide the best fit, are convenient and they face backwards — the safest option for babies up to two years old. But Consumer Reports says pay particular attention to the height limit of your infant seat because children are likely to grow too tall for the seat before they reach the weight limit.

McCain Foods recalls onion rings due to possible glass contamination McCain Foods is recalling some onion rings because of concerns they could contain glass, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The nationwide recall concerns McCain’s 397-gram bag of onion rings with a best-before date of Oct. 28, 2015 and a lot code beginning with V40728. The CFIA said the product is being recalled from the marketplace due to “possible glass contamination.” The agency said McCain Foods voluntarily triggered the recall and there have been no reported injuries associated with consumption of the product. The agency said consumers should check to see if they have recalled products at home.
