Digitale, ma sempre un libro In che forma i libri di testo possono conservare la loro funzione nell’era del digitale? Come devono essere concepiti, pensati, scritti, intesi, proposti, usati? Proviamo a rispondere ripercorrendo alcune tappe della complessa storia del libro di testo come strumento di apprendimento. La storia dell’uso del libro di testo come strumento di apprendimento è lunga e complessa; se si vuole capire se e in che forma i libri di testo possano conservare la loro funzione nell’era del digitale, occorre ricordarne almeno alcune tappe. Nel nostro Paese, nel secondo dopoguerra, l’editoria scolastica ha attraversato sostanzialmente tre fasi. In un primo periodo, che arriva più o meno alla metà degli anni Settanta, il libro di testo si propone come strumento unico, spesso – soprattutto per quanto riguarda la scuola dell’obbligo e le discipline umanistiche – fortemente orientato alla riproposizione acritica di modelli ideologici e valoriali tradizionali. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
La rinascita delle biblioteche pubbliche a New York Lungi dal diventare irrilevanti nell'era digitale, le biblioteche di New York e più in generale degli Stati Uniti stanno vivendo un vero e proprio momento d’oro: aggiungono ore di apertura nel fine settimana e alla sera; assumono più bibliotecari e personale; espandono il loro catalogo di corsi e di servizi, fino a includere servizi di consulenza lavorativa, classi di programmazione informatica, corsi meditazione, consulenze su come pianificare la propria carriera e perfino lezioni per imparare a lavorare a maglia. Non più semplicemente depositi di libri, le biblioteche pubbliche della Grande Mela sono state capaci di reinventarsi come centri di aggregazione che mirano a offrire qualcosa a tutti i cittadini. Per molti newyorkesi il vero rifugio estivo non sono gli Hamptons o Jersey Shore, luoghi splendidi ma che richiedono la macchina e un piccola fortuna per essere raggiunti. Il messaggio è stato ascoltato. Non mancano anche le storie e le parabole di vita, tanto care agli americani.
