With a baby on the way,(and the parents amongst you will know how muchthey cost) it was an opportune time to figure out where we could save a little money each month. Going through the finances line by line was revealing – one of our major outgoings was our TV satellite service. I love sport and movies, so we had the full package from our provider, but when we talked about it, we were no longer watching as much TV as we used to – and the programmes we both loved were available free to air. So we took the decision to cut the cord, and swap our satellite service for Freeview (the UK’s free to air digital TV service). Of course, that meant losing our DVR, so picked up a relatively cheap ASRock Nettop (the Intel Atom/NVIDIA ION powered ION 330) which could handle 1080p high definition video and came with HDMI out, so it was a cinch to hook up to the TV.

Kdy přesně by mohla Kanada víza zrušit, zatím není známé. „My samozřejmě budeme vítat brzké vyřešení téhle otázky,“ uvedl mluvčího českého ministerstva zahraničí David Frous, podle nějž jsou víza jednou z hlavních otázek česko-kanadských vztahů. Diplomatické zdroje dávají vstřícný krok Kanady do souvislosti s připravovanou obchodní dohodou mezi Kanadou a Evropskou unií. Jsou jí stroje, které se dokážou po vzletu vrátit znovu na zem, aby se ušetřily náklady za stavbu nového nosiče. Základní prvky svých představ firma zkouší na pokusném stroji Grasshopper (Luční kobylka). Jde v podstatě o upravenou palivovou nádrž raket Falcon 9, které už dnes slouží třeba k dopravě nákladu na Mezinárodní vesmírnou stanici (ISS). Nádrž je vybavena kovovými vzpěrami, které jí umožňují stání bez opory. Stroj pohání jeden raketový motor Merlin 1D. Že to opravdu zvládne, poprvé dokázal v září 2012 během jen tři sekundy trvajícího "poskoku" do výšky zhruba dvou metrů. Zatím nejlepší výkon pak první Grasshopper předvedl 7. října. A stále dál a výš. Stroj tak završil první vývojovou fázi celého systému. Verze 1.1 je větší než první Grasshopper, na výšku bude měřit přes 50 metrů. Nová verze podvozku by také podle SpaceX měla být podstatně lehčí, celková hmotnost má být méně než 2 100 kilogramů.
