The History of Rock Music. Storia della Musica Rock The times were ripe for change, but a catalyst was still needed. "Mersey-beat" changed the story of rock music forever. Mersey-beat came out of nowhere, but it came with the power of history. Britain had had a lousy music scene throughout the early Sixties. Mainly, British rockers were mimicking Presley. In the early Sixties veterans of that scene, or disciples of that scene, led to the formation of bands such as the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds and the Animals. Liverpool did not have a great underground scene but had a more commercial brand of rock bands. The most influential bands of the second generation were the Kinks and the Who. Cream and Led Zeppelin upped the ante when they started playing very loud blues. The impact of British electricity on the American scene was equivalent to an earthquake. On the East Coast it was Dylan again who led the charge. On the West Coast both San Francisco and Los Angeles reacted to the boom of rock and roll in typically eccentric manners.

s Audio Editor - myna As per this blog post from July, we have officially closed the advanced suite of Flash tools (previously located at advanced.aviary.com) in order to focus on our new company direction powering the photo experience in 3rd party apps. While we hoped that everyone would have taken the time to retrieve their files since our notice, we recognize that the message may not have been seen by everyone. Therefore, if you were not able to retrieve all of your files to date, please contact us at support@aviary.com from the email address associated with your account to help retrieve your files. While the tools will remain offline, we may continue to explore new homes in whole or in part, for specific elements of the suite. I would like to make a few recommendations for alternate tools to try: I have a number of thank yous to make, but I'll leave out names because there are so many and I don't want to risk leaving anyone out: Thank you to the dozens of press outlets who covered the advanced suite.

They're Autistic--and They're in Love: Magazine Lindsey Nebeker and Dave Hamrick each used to wonder if they’d ever find lasting love. Here’s how they came together—and how, side by side, they face the world. There are two bedrooms in the cozy Jackson, Mississippi, apartment: Dave Hamrick’s is like a dad’s den, with a striped beige armchair and a hanging map; Lindsey Nebeker’s is darkly girly, with spiky dried roses hung over a bed topped by a graphic leaf-print quilt. After work on any given evening, Dave and Lindsey are likely to be orbiting the home separately, doing their own thing. Dave may be flipping through magazines, pausing to stare fixedly at design details or leaning in to inhale the scent of the pages. An observer might assume the two are amicable, if oddball, roommates. About 1.5 million people in the United States (an estimated one fifth of them are female) have autism, with varying degrees of severity. Photo: Courtesy of Gorden Nebeker

Current Cart to Power Grocery Stores Current Cart “Your consumption is production” is the premise behind a new concept called Current Cart by Kitae Pak & Inyong Jung that would turn shopping carts into electricity-generating mobile units. Their hope is that shoppers can power the stores in which they shop by the very act of wandering around the store and shopping. It’s a neat idea, though the cost of manufacturing the carts alone would push back the pay-back period for the investment quite a bit, as the carts and the charge-collection rack would likely be pricey. The designers suggest the carts could collect enough energy to power a store for a month. Interesting idea, but a definitely distant concept. Via Treehugger

The Webtender: Drinking Games. Have fun with The Webtender's collection of drinking games, but be extremely careful if you play any these games, especially the ones with high buzz factors. The collection was created as an aid to responsible adults who know their limits (and not to cross them) when it comes to drinking, and not to promote this kind of drinking behavior. You should of course be of legal drinking age if you want to play these games with beer or drinks, but anyone can play these games with non-alcoholic beverages as well. For more fun, visit the Web Site Index and go to one of the sites listed there. You should also take a look at 'The Complete Book of Beer Drinking Games'.
